Journal ArticleDOI
Use of a leucine clamp to demonstrate that IGF-I actively stimulates protein synthesis in normal humans.
David Russell-Jones,A. M. Umpleby,T. R. Hennessy,S. B. Bowes,Fariba Shojaee-Moradie,K. D. Hopkins,Nicola Jackson,J.M. Kelly,Richard H. Jones,Peter H. Sönksen +9 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that IGF-I, under conditions of adequate substrate supply, directly increases protein synthesis in contrast to insulin, which exerts its anabolic action by reducing proteolysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Insulin-Sensitizing Effects on Muscle and Adipose Tissue after Dietary Fiber Intake in Men and Women with Metabolic Syndrome
M. Denise Robertson,John Wright,Emmanuelle Loizon,Cyrille Debard,Hubert Vidal,Fariba Shojaee-Moradie,David Russell-Jones,A. Margot Umpleby +7 more
TL;DR: HAM-RS2 improved peripheral but not hepatic insulin resistance and requires further study as an intervention in patients with or at risk for type 2 diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exercise training reverses endothelial dysfunction in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
Christopher J. A. Pugh,Christopher J. A. Pugh,Victoria S. Sprung,Graham J. Kemp,Paul G. Richardson,Fariba Shojaee-Moradie,A. Margot Umpleby,Daniel J. Green,Daniel J. Green,N. Timothy Cable,Helen Jones,Daniel J. Cuthbertson +11 more
TL;DR: Exercise training, but not conventional care, significantly improved V̇o2 peak and cannot be fully explained by excess VAT but can be reversed with exercise training; this has potential implications for the primary prevention of CVD in NAFLD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dissociation between exercise-induced reduction in liver fat and changes in hepatic and peripheral glucose homoeostasis in obese patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
Daniel J. Cuthbertson,Fariba Shojaee-Moradie,Victoria S. Sprung,Helen Jones,Christopher J. A. Pugh,Paul G. Richardson,Graham J. Kemp,M. Barrett,Nicola Jackson,E L Thomas,Jimmy D. Bell,A. M. Umpleby +11 more
TL;DR: Although supervised exercise effectively reduced liver fat, improving peripheral IR in NAFLD, the reduction in liver fat was insufficient to improve hepatic IR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metabolically healthy and unhealthy obesity: differential effects on myocardial function according to metabolic syndrome, rather than obesity
Rebecca Dobson,Malcolm I. Burgess,Victoria S. Sprung,Andrew Irwin,Mark Hamer,Julia Jones,Christina Daousi,V.L. Adams,Graham J. Kemp,Fariba Shojaee-Moradie,M Umpleby,Daniel J. Cuthbertson +11 more
TL;DR: Myocardial dysfunction appears to be related to poor metabolic health rather than simply BMI or fat mass, which may partly explain the epidemiological evidence on CVD risk relating to the different obesity phenotypes.
