Population genetic structure of Schistosoma bovis in Cameroon

TL;DR: This study provides novel insights into genetic diversity and population genetic structure of S. bovis, a highly widespread and prevalent schistosome infecting ruminants and therefore of veterinary importance.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Genome Wide Comparison to Identify Markers to Differentiate the Sex of Larval Stages of Schistosoma haematobium, Schistosoma bovis and their Respective Hybrids

TL;DR: An endpoint PCR-based assay using female-specific sequences identified using a genome-wide comparative analysis between males and females is presented, which allowed us to identify sex-markers for Schistosoma haematobium and SchistOSoma bovis but also the hybrid between both species that has recently emerged in Corsica (France).
Journal ArticleDOI

Population genetics of the Schistosoma snail host Bulinus truncatus in Egypt.

TL;DR: Signs of gene flow and cross-fertilization are found, even between snails from the Nile Delta and Upper Egypt, indicating that B. truncatus can travel across large distances in Egypt, which could have serious consequences for disease epidemiology.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of mating system, fecundity, hatching and survival rates in two Schistosoma mansoni intermediate hosts (Biomphalaria pfeifferi and Biomphalaria camerunensis) in Cameroon

TL;DR: Findings may explain the high adaptability to more diverse and inconstant habitats, as well as the better compatibility of B. pfeifferi to S. mansoni compared with B. camerunensis, and may support the sustainability of S.mansoni life cycle where this intermediate host prevails.
