Journal ArticleDOI

Substitution of raltegravir for ritonavir-boosted protease inhibitors in HIV-infected patients: the SPIRAL study.

TL;DR: In patients with sustained virological suppression on ritonavir-boosted protease inhibitor-based therapy, switching to raltegravir demonstrated noninferior efficacy and resulted in a better lipid profile at 48 weeks than continuing riton Cavir- boosted protease inhibitors.
Journal ArticleDOI

The influence of age and gender on the population-based incidence of community-acquired pneumonia caused by different microbial pathogens.

TL;DR: Age and gender have a strong influence on the overall incidence of CAP and on the incidence of pneumonia caused by the main microbial pathogens, including not only Streptococcus pneumoniae, but also influenza virus, Chlamydophila spp.
Journal ArticleDOI

Usefulness of Procalcitonin Levels in Community-Acquired Pneumonia According to the Patients Outcome Research Team Pneumonia Severity Index

TL;DR: While procalcitonin may have a role to predict the microbial etiology in patients with a low PSI score, in patients classified within high PSI risk classes, it is a prognostic marker rather than a predictor of etiology.
Journal ArticleDOI

CD4 cell count and the risk of AIDS or death in HIV-Infected adults on combination antiretroviral therapy with a suppressed viral load: a longitudinal cohort study from COHERE

TL;DR: Using data from the Collaboration of Observational HIV Epidemiological Research Europe, Jim Young and colleagues show that in successfully treated patients the risk of a new AIDS event or death follows a CD4 cell count gradient in patients with viral suppression.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microbiology and outcome of iliopsoas abscess in 124 patients.

TL;DR: Primary IPA is more prevalent than primary IPA among those with secondary IPA, and most abscesses are secondary to a skeletal source; the overall prognosis of patients with this condition is good.
