Journal ArticleDOI
HIV induces synaptic hyperexcitation via cGMP-dependent protein kinase II activation in the FIV infection model
Keira Sztukowski,Kaila A. Nip,Paige N. Ostwald,Matheus F. Sathler,Julianna L. Sun,Jiayi Shou,Emily T. Jorgensen,Travis E. Brown,John H. Elder,Craig Miller,Franz Hofmann,Sue VandeWoude,Seonil Kim +12 more
TL;DR: A novel neurobiological mechanism of cGKII-mediated synaptic hyperexcitation in HAND is provided, which suggests that HIV gp120 and FIV gp95 share a core pathological process in neurons.
Journal ArticleDOI
The devapamil-binding site of the purified skeletal muscle receptor for organic-calcium channel blockers is modulated by micromolar and millimolar concentrations of Ca2+.
TL;DR: Results show that micromolar Ca2+ concentrations stabilize the CaCB receptor in a conformation which allows high-affinity binding of phenylalkylamines and that the high affinity site is negatively regulated allosterically by millimolar Ca 2+ concentrations and by the occupation of a second low-Affinity site.
Journal ArticleDOI
Two stable cell lines for screening of calcium channel blockers.
TL;DR: Results indicate that the two cell lines retain the differential dihydropyridine sensitivity of smooth muscle and cardiac calcium channels and may be potential tools for the screening of L-type calcium channel blockers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Autophosphorylation of cGMP-dependent protein kinase type II.
Arie B. Vaandrager,Boris M. Hogema,Marcel Edixhoven,Caroline M. M. van den Burg,Alice G. M. Bot,Peter Klatt,Peter Ruth,Franz Hofmann,Jozef Van Damme,Joël Vandekerckhove,Hugo R. de Jonge +10 more
TL;DR: Results show that the fast phase of cyclic nucleotide-stimulated autophosphorylation of cGK II has a relatively small feed forward effect on its activity, whereas the secondary phase, presumably involving Ser126 phosphorylation, may generate a constitutively active form of the enzyme.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cav 1.3 L-type Ca ( 2+) channels mediate long-term adaptation in dopamine D2L-mediated GluA1 trafficking in the dorsal striatum following cocaine exposure.
Kathryn C. Schierberl,Thomas Giordano,Shirish S. Satpute,Jin Hao,Gagandeep Kaur,Franz Hofmann,Sven Moosmang,Joerg Striessnig,Anjali M. Rajadhyaksha +8 more
TL;DR: For example, this article found that repeated cocaine results in a basal reduction of Ser 845 GluA1 and cell surface Glu A1 levels in the dorsal striatum (dStr) following a protracted withdrawal period, an adaptation that is dependent on Cav 1.3 channels but not those expressed in the VTA.
