Recent Zika Virus Isolates Induce Premature Differentiation of Neural Progenitors in Human Brain Organoids
Elke Gabriel,Anand Ramani,Ulrike Karow,Marco Gottardo,Karthick Natarajan,Li Ming Gooi,Gladiola Goranci-Buzhala,Oleg Krut,Franziska Peters,Milos Nikolic,Suvi Kuivanen,Essi M. Korhonen,Teemu Smura,Olli Vapalahti,Argyris Papantonis,Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit,Maria Giovanna Riparbelli,Giuliano Callaini,Martin Krönke,Olaf Utermöhlen,Jay Gopalakrishnan +20 more
TL;DR: Two recently isolated strains of ZIKV, an American strain from an infected fetal brain and a closely-related Asian strain, productively infect human iPSC-derived brain organoids, showing the structural changes seen after infection closely resemble those seen in ZikV-associated microcephaly.
Journal ArticleDOI
Odontogenic sinusitis maxillaris: A retrospective study of 121 cases with surgical intervention.
Matthias Zirk,Timo Dreiseidler,Matthias Pohl,Daniel Rothamel,Johannes Buller,Franziska Peters,Joachim E. Zöller,Matthias Kreppel +7 more
TL;DR: If OMS is diagnosed dental focus should be treated, misplaced bodies should be removed and purulent exacerbation has to be additionally treated with a calculated antibiotic therapy according to the pathogens resistance patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ceramide synthase 4 regulates stem cell homeostasis and hair follicle cycling.
Franziska Peters,Susanne Vorhagen,Susanne Brodesser,Kristin Jakobshagen,Jens C. Brüning,Carien M. Niessen,Martin Krönke +6 more
TL;DR: The data indicate that CerS4-directed epidermal ceramide composition is essential to control hair follicle stem and progenitor cell behavior potentially through its regulation of BMP and Wnt signaling.
Journal ArticleDOI
The impact of surgical intervention and antibiotics on MRONJ stage II and III - Retrospective study.
Matthias Zirk,Matthias Kreppel,Johannes Buller,Julij Pristup,Franziska Peters,Timo Dreiseidler,Max Zinser,Joachim E. Zöller +7 more
TL;DR: The perioperative antibiotic regime for patients with MRONJ stage II and III undergoing surgically treatment does have an influence on the recurrence of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bug or no bug: challenges in diagnosing cutaneous mycobacterial infections.
TL;DR: The current diagnostic options when suspecting a case of cutaneous mycobacterial infection are reviewed and bacterial culture, histopathology and PCR‐based methods are reviewed.
