Journal ArticleDOI
Night Shift Work and Breast Cancer Incidence: Three Prospective Studies and Meta-analysis of Published Studies.
Ruth C. Travis,Angela Balkwill,Georgina K. Fensom,Paul N. Appleby,Gillian K Reeves,Xiao-Si Wang,Andrew W. Roddam,Toral Gathani,Richard Peto,Jane Green,Timothy J. Key,Valerie Beral +11 more
TL;DR: The totality of the prospective evidence shows that nightshift work, including long-term shift work, has little or no effect on breast cancer incidence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metabolic profiles of male meat eaters, fish eaters, vegetarians, and vegans from the EPIC-Oxford cohort
Julie A. Schmidt,Sabina Rinaldi,Pietro Ferrari,Marion Carayol,David Achaintre,Augustin Scalbert,Amanda J. Cross,Marc J. Gunter,Georgina K. Fensom,Paul N. Appleby,Timothy J. Key,Ruth C. Travis +11 more
TL;DR: Metabolic profiles in plasma could effectively differentiate between men from different habitual diet groups, especially vegan men compared with men who consume animal products.
Journal ArticleDOI
Insulin-like growth factor-1, insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3, and breast cancer risk: observational and Mendelian randomization analyses with ∼430 000 women.
Neil Murphy,Anika Knuppel,Nikos Papadimitriou,Richard M. Martin,Kostas Tsilidis,Karl Smith-Byrne,Georgina K. Fensom,Aurora Perez-Cornago,Ruth C. Travis,Timothy J. Key,Marc J. Gunter +10 more
TL;DR: The results support a probable causal relationship between circulating IGF-1 concentrations and breast cancer, suggesting that interventions targeting the IGF pathway may be beneficial in preventing breast tumorigenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vegetarian and vegan diets and risks of total and site-specific fractures: results from the prospective EPIC-Oxford study.
Tammy Y.N. Tong,Paul N. Appleby,Miranda E G Armstrong,Georgina K. Fensom,Anika Knuppel,Keren Papier,Aurora Perez-Cornago,Ruth C. Travis,Timothy J. Key +8 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that bone health in vegans requires further research, and the significant associations appeared to be stronger without adjustment for BMI and were slightly attenuated but remained significant with additional adjustment for dietary calcium and/or total protein.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective investigation of risk factors for prostate cancer in the UK Biobank cohort study.
Aurora Perez-Cornago,Timothy J. Key,Naomi E. Allen,Georgina K. Fensom,Kathryn E. Bradbury,Richard M. Martin,Ruth C. Travis +6 more
TL;DR: Prostate cancer risk was positively associated with the following: black ethnicity, black vs white, and having ever had a prostate-specific antigen test, which are all known risk factors for prostate cancer.
