Assessment of size reduction as a preliminary step in the production of ethanol from lignocellulosic wastes
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors quantified energy consumption for size reduction of hardwoods and agricultural wastes as a function of final particle size and ratio of comminution, and found that energy input for comminutions, in a multiple feedstock process plant, can be kept below 30 kWh per tonne of wastes, provided final particle sizes is held in the range 3-6 mm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arsenic (V) removal with nanoparticulate zerovalent iron: Effect of UV light and humic acids
María E. Morgada,Ivana K. Levy,Vanesa Natalia Salomone,Silvia S. Farías,Gerardo Daniel López,Marta I. Litter +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, results on As(V) removal in the presence of oxygen using the zerovalent iron technology with commercial iron nanoparticles (NanoFe ® ) are presented, showing the effect of nanoFe ® mass, UV light and addition of humic acids.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genotoxicity and oxidative stress in fish after a short-term exposure to silver nanoparticles
Carla Bacchetta,Analía Ale,Maria Fernanda Simoniello,Susana Graciela Gervasio,Carla Davico,Andrea Silvana Rossi,Martín F. Desimone,Gisela Laura Poletta,Gerardo Daniel López,José Maria Monserrat,Jimena Cazenave +10 more
TL;DR: A short exposure to sublethal concentrations of AgNPs is enough to generate deleterious effects on fish, including DNA damage, as evidenced by the DNA damage in fish erythrocytes at higher concentrations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Toxicological effects induced by the nanomaterials fullerene and nanosilver in the polychaeta Laeonereis acuta (Nereididae) and in the bacteria communities living at their surface.
Bianca Fell Marques,Lucas Freitas Cordeiro,Luiza Wilges Kist,Maurício Reis Bogo,Gerardo Daniel López,Gisela Pagano,Diana Tomazi Muratt,Leandro Machado de Carvalho,Irene Clemes Külkamp-Guerreiro,José Maria Monserrat +9 more
TL;DR: Analysis of antioxidant and oxidative damage responses of anterior, middle and posterior region of L. acuta and bacteria communities after nC60 or nAg exposure during 24 h showed a prevalence of Vibrio genera in the communities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Toxicological Effects Induced by Silver Nanoparticles in Zebra Fish ( Danio Rerio ) and in the Bacteria Communities Living at Their Surface
Carla Bacchetta,Gerardo Daniel López,Gisela Pagano,Diana Tomazi Muratt,Leandro Machado de Carvalho,José Maria Monserrat +5 more
TL;DR: Overall the results indicated toxicological effects of AgNP on bacteria communities living at the zebrafish mucus surface, and no evidence of toxicity in terms of oxidative stress was found.
