Journal ArticleDOI
International Cooperative Ataxia Rating Scale for pharmacological assessment of the cerebellar syndrome
Paul Trouillas,Tetsuya Takayanagi,Mark Hallett,Robert D. Currier,S. H. Subramony,K. Wessel,Alan Bryer,Hans-Christoph Diener,S. Massaquoi,Christopher M. Gomez,Paula Coutinho,M. Ben Hamida,Giuseppe Campanella,Alessandro Filla,L. Schut,D. Timann,Jérôme Honnorat,Norbert Nighoghossian,Bala V. Manyam +18 more
TL;DR: The scale proposed involves a compartimentalized quantification of postural and stance disorders, limb ataxia, dysarthria and oculomotor disorders, in order that a subscore concerning these symptoms may be separately studied.
Journal Article
The relationship between trinucleotide (GAA) repeat length and clinical features in Friedreich ataxia.
Alessandro Filla,G. De Michele,F Cavalcanti,Luigi Pianese,Antonella Monticelli,Giuseppe Campanella,Sergio Cocozza +6 more
TL;DR: The length of FA alleles ranged from 201 to 1,186 repeat units, with no overlap with the normal range, and showed a negatively skewed distribution with a peak between 800 and 1,000 repeats, and the FA repeat showed meiotic instability with a median variation of 150 repeats.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ecogenetics of Parkinson's disease: prevalence and environmental aspects in rural areas.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the prevalence of Parkinson's disease is of uneven distribution within rural areas and the characteristics of the regions of high prevalence were also the areas with the highest use of pesticides.
Journal ArticleDOI
Environmental and genetic risk factors in Parkinson's disease: A case–control study in southern italy
G. De Michele,Alessandro Filla,Giampiero Volpe,V. De Marco,A. Gogliettino,G. Ambrosio,Roberto Marconi,Anna Elisa Castellano,Giuseppe Campanella +8 more
TL;DR: A case‐control study in southern Italy suggests a strong role of the genetic factors in the etiology of Parkinson's disease and a unilateral distribution of ancestral secondary cases on the paternal or on the maternal side, which suggests a dominant inheritance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Late onset Friedreich's disease: clinical features and mapping of mutation to the FRDA locus.
G. De Michele,Alessandro Filla,F Cavalcanti,L. Di Maio,Luigi Pianese,Imma Castaldo,Olga Calabrese,Antonella Monticelli,S. Varrone,Giuseppe Campanella +9 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that "late onset" Friedreich's disease is milder than the "typical" form and that it maps to the same locus on chromosome 9.
