Journal ArticleDOI
International Cooperative Ataxia Rating Scale for pharmacological assessment of the cerebellar syndrome
Paul Trouillas,Tetsuya Takayanagi,Mark Hallett,Robert D. Currier,S. H. Subramony,K. Wessel,Alan Bryer,Hans-Christoph Diener,S. Massaquoi,Christopher M. Gomez,Paula Coutinho,M. Ben Hamida,Giuseppe Campanella,Alessandro Filla,L. Schut,D. Timann,Jérôme Honnorat,Norbert Nighoghossian,Bala V. Manyam +18 more
TL;DR: The scale proposed involves a compartimentalized quantification of postural and stance disorders, limb ataxia, dysarthria and oculomotor disorders, in order that a subscore concerning these symptoms may be separately studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spinocerebellar ataxia type 6 Molecular and clinical features of 35 Japanese patients including one homozygous for the CAG repeat expansion
Ryusuke Matsumura,Naonobu Futamura,Yasuyo Fujimoto,S. Yanagimoto,Horikawa H,Akio Suzumura,Tetsuya Takayanagi +6 more
TL;DR: The main clinical feature of the 35 patients with SCA6 was slowly progressive cerebellar ataxia; multisystem involvement was not common and suggests that the dosage of the CAG repeat expansion plays an important role in phenotypic expression in SCA 6.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transgenic Mice Harboring a Full-Length Human Mutant DRPLA Gene Exhibit Age-Dependent Intergenerational and Somatic Instabilities of CAG repeats Comparable with Those in DRPLA patients
Toshiya Sato,Mutsuo Oyake,Kenji Nakamura,Kazuki Nakao,Yoshimitsu Fukusima,Osamu Onodera,Shuichi Igarashi,Hiroki Takano,Koki Kikugawa,Yoshinori Ishida,Takayoshi Shimohata,Reiji Koide,Takeshi Ikeuchi,Hajime Tanaka,Naonobu Futamura,Ryusuke Matsumura,Tetsuya Takayanagi,Fumiaki Tanaka,Gen Sobue,Osamu Komure,Mie Takahashi,Akira Sano,Yaeko Ichikawa,Jun Goto,Ichiro Kanazawa,Motoya Katsuki,Shoji Tsuji +26 more
TL;DR: The transgenic mice described in this study exhibited age-dependent intergenerational as well as somatic instabilities of expanded CAG repeats comparable with those observed in human DRPLA patients, and are expected to serve as good models for investigating the molecular mechanisms of instabilities in CAG repeat instability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spinocerebellar degenerations in Japan: a nationwide epidemiological and clinical study.
K. Hirayama,Tetsuya Takayanagi,R. Nakamura,N. Yanagisawa,Takamichi Hattori,K Kita,S. Yanagimoto,M. Fujita,M. Nagaoka,Y. Satomura,Itsuro Sobue,R. Iizuka,Yasuo Toyokura,E. Satoyoshi,Keizo Hirayama +14 more
TL;DR: Functional prognosis was poorest in non‐hereditary, multi‐systemic types (OPCA, SDS and SND), and better in spinal types (FA and HSP) and cerebellar types (HHCA and LCCA).
Journal ArticleDOI
Central motor reorganization after anastomosis of the musculocutaneous and intercostal nerves following cervical root avulsion
TL;DR: Findings suggest that reorganization of the motor cortex to arm flexor muscles occurs following peripheral nerve anastomosis in patients with a complete upper limb palsy.
