Beyond the learning curve: factors influencing cost reductions in photovoltaics

TL;DR: In this paper, empirical data are assembled to populate a simple model identifying the most important factors affecting the cost of photovoltaics (PV), and the results indicate that learning from experience, the theoretical mechanism used to explain learning curves, only weakly explains change in the most significant factors, such as plant size, module efficiency, and cost of silicon.
Journal ArticleDOI

Demand-pull, technology-push, and government-led incentives for non-incremental technical change

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that inventors of the most important technologies did not respond positively to strong demand-pull policies, and filing of highly cited patents declined precipitously just as demand for wind power created a multi-billion dollar market.
Journal ArticleDOI

The underestimated potential of solar energy to mitigate climate change

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that underestimating PV potential led to suboptimal integration measures and that specific deployment strategies for emerging economies should be developed, and that PV generation represents a growing share of power generation.
