Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and control of diabetes in Chinese adults.
Yu Xu,Limin Wang,Jiang He,Yufang Bi,Mian Li,Tiange Wang,Linhong Wang,Yong Jiang,Meng Dai,Jieli Lu,Min Xu,Yichong Li,Nan Hu,Jianhong Li,Shengquan Mi,Chung Shiuan Chen,Guangwei Li,Yiming Mu,Jiajun Zhao,Lingzhi Kong,Jia-Lun Chen,Shenghan Lai,Weiqing Wang,Wenhua Zhao,Guang Ning +24 more
TL;DR: The estimated prevalence of diabetes among a representative sample of Chinese adults was 11.6% and the prevalence of prediabetes was 50.1%, which indicates the importance of diabetes as a public health problem in China.
Journal ArticleDOI
The long-term effect of lifestyle interventions to prevent diabetes in the China Da Qing Diabetes Prevention Study: a 20-year follow-up study
Guangwei Li,Ping Zhang,Jinping Wang,Edward W. Gregg,Wenying Yang,Qiuhong Gong,Hui Li,Hongliang Li,Yayun Jiang,Yali An,Ying Shuai,Bo Zhang,Jing-ling Zhang,Theodore J. Thompson,Robert B. Gerzoff,Gojka Roglic,Yinghua Hu,Peter H. Bennett +17 more
TL;DR: Group-based lifestyle interventions over 6 years can prevent or delay diabetes for up to 14 years after the active intervention, however, whether lifestyle intervention also leads to reduced CVD and mortality remains unclear.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiovascular mortality, all-cause mortality, and diabetes incidence after lifestyle intervention for people with impaired glucose tolerance in the Da Qing Diabetes Prevention Study: a 23-year follow-up study
Guangwei Li,Ping Zhang,Jinping Wang,Yali An,Qiuhong Gong,Edward W. Gregg,Wenying Yang,Bo Zhang,Ying Shuai,Jing Hong,Michael M. Engelgau,Hui Li,Gojka Roglic,Yinghua Hu,Peter H. Bennett +14 more
TL;DR: A 6-year lifestyle intervention programme for Chinese people with impaired glucose tolerance can reduce incidence of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality and diabetes and provide further justification for adoption of lifestyle interventions as public health measures to control the consequences of diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Morbidity and mortality after lifestyle intervention for people with impaired glucose tolerance: 30-year results of the Da Qing Diabetes Prevention Outcome Study
Qiuhong Gong,Ping Zhang,Jinping Wang,Jixiang Ma,Yali An,Yanyan Chen,Bo Zhang,Xinxing Feng,Hui Li,Xiaoping Chen,Yiling J. Cheng,Edward W. Gregg,Yinghua Hu,Peter H. Bennett,Guangwei Li +14 more
TL;DR: Lifestyle intervention in people with impaired glucose tolerance delayed the onset of type 2 diabetes and reduced the incidence of cardiovascular events, microvascular complications, and cardiovascular and all-cause mortality, and increased life expectancy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term effects of a randomised trial of a 6-year lifestyle intervention in impaired glucose tolerance on diabetes-related microvascular complications: the China Da Qing Diabetes Prevention Outcome Study
Q. Gong,Q. Gong,Edward W. Gregg,Jinping Wang,Yali An,Ping Zhang,Wenying Yang,Hongliang Li,Y. Jiang,Ying Shuai,Bo Zhang,J. Zhang,Robert B. Gerzoff,Gojka Roglic,Y. Hu,Guangwei Li,Peter H. Bennett +16 more
TL;DR: Lifestyle intervention for 6 years in IGT was associated with a 47% reduction in the incidence of severe, vision-threatening retinopathy over a 20 year interval, primarily due to the reduced incidence of diabetes in the intervention group, however, similar benefits were not seen for nephropathy or neuropathy.
