Journal ArticleDOI

Berberine stimulates glucose transport through a mechanism distinct from insulin.

TL;DR: It was revealed that berberine stimulated glucose uptake in 3T3-L1 adipocytes in a dose- and time-dependent manner with the maximal effect at 12 hours, and activated adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase seems to be involved in the metabolic effect of berberines.
Journal ArticleDOI

A genome-wide search for type II diabetes susceptibility genes in Chinese Hans.

TL;DR: The results suggest that chromosome 9 contains genes involved in the susceptibility to Type II diabetes in an eastern and southeastern Chinese Han population, and chromosome 20 could hide genes linked to Type Two diabetes in families with a lower BMI.
Journal ArticleDOI

The influence of Lys3Asn polymorphism in the osteoprotegerin gene on bone mineral density in Chinese postmenopausal women

TL;DR: The OPG genotype Lys-Lys had a 2.7 times greater risk for osteopenia/osteoporosis than the Asn-Asn genotype, and the Lys3Asn polymorphism in the OPG gene is associated with L2–4 BMD in postmenopausal women.
