Journal ArticleDOI
Association of vitamin D deficiency with heart failure and sudden cardiac death in a large cross-sectional study of patients referred for coronary angiography.
Stefan Pilz,Winfried März,Winfried März,Britta Wellnitz,Ursula Seelhorst,Astrid Fahrleitner-Pammer,H. P. Dimai,Bernhard O. Boehm,Harald Dobnig +8 more
TL;DR: Low levels of 25(OH)D and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D are associated with prevalent myocardial dysfunction, deaths due to heart failure, and SCD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) for diagnosis and fracture risk assessment; WHO-criteria, T- and Z-score, and reference databases
TL;DR: DXA measurement can either be used as a "stand-alone" means in the assessment of an individual's fracture risk, or incorporated into one of the available fracture risk assessment tools such as FRAX® or Garvan, thus improving the predictive power of such tools.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of calcium supplementation in healthy musculoskeletal ageing : An expert consensus meeting of the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases (ESCEO) and the International Foundation for Osteoporosis (IOF).
Nicholas C. Harvey,Emmanuel Biver,Jean-Marc Kaufman,Jürgen M. Bauer,Jaime Branco,Maria Luisa Brandi,Olivier Bruyère,Véronique Coxam,Véronique Coxam,Alfonso J. Cruz-Jentoft,Edward Czerwiński,H. P. Dimai,Patrice Fardellone,Francesco Landi,Jean-Yves Reginster,Bess Dawson-Hughes,John A. Kanis,John A. Kanis,René Rizzoli,Cyrus Cooper,Cyrus Cooper +20 more
TL;DR: It is recommended, on the basis of the current evidence, that calcium supplementation, with concomitant vitamin D supplementation, is supported for patients at high risk of calcium and vitamin D insufficiency, and in those who are receiving treatment for osteoporosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
The International Costs and Utilities Related to Osteoporotic Fractures Study (ICUROS)--quality of life during the first 4 months after fracture.
F. Borgström,Ingrid Lekander,M Ivergard,Oskar Ström,Axel Svedbom,Vidmantas Alekna,Maria Luisa Bianchi,Patricia Clark,Manuel Diaz Curiel,H. P. Dimai,Mikk Jürisson,Riina Kallikorm,Olga Lesnyak,Eugene V. McCloskey,E. Nassonov,Kerrie M. Sanders,S. Silverman,Marija Tamulaitiene,Theda Thomas,Anna N. A. Tosteson,Bengt Jönsson,John A. Kanis +21 more
TL;DR: The findings in this study indicate that there appear to be important variations in the QoL decrements related to fracture between countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification and management of patients at increased risk of osteoporotic fracture: outcomes of an ESCEO expert consensus meeting
John A. Kanis,John A. Kanis,Cyrus Cooper,René Rizzoli,Bo Abrahamsen,Nasser M. Al-Daghri,M. L. Brandi,Jorge B. Cannata-Andía,Bernard Cortet,H. P. Dimai,Serge Ferrari,Peyman Hadji,Nicholas C. Harvey,Marius E. Kraenzlin,Andreas Kurth,Eugene V. McCloskey,Salvatore Minisola,Theda Thomas,Jean-Yves Reginster +18 more
TL;DR: There is a significant treatment gap between those who would benefit from treatment and those who receive it, which urgently needs to be addressed so that the burden of disease can be reduced.
