Journal ArticleDOI
DNA Commission of the International Society for Forensic Genetics (ISFG): Recommendations regarding the role of forensic genetics for disaster victim identification (DVI)
M. Prinz,Angel Carracedo,Wolfgang R. Mayr,Niels Morling,Thomas J. Parsons,Antti Sajantila,R. Scheithauer,H. Schmitter,Peter M. Schneider +8 more
TL;DR: These recommendations are intended to provide guidance on establishing preparedness for the forensic genetics laboratory, on collecting and storing ante-mortem and post-mortem samples suitable for DNA analysis, on DNA extraction and genetic typing strategies, on data management, and on issues related to the biostatistical interpretation and reporting of results.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of artificially degraded DNA using STRs and SNPs—results of a collaborative European (EDNAP) exercise
L.A. Dixon,A.E. Dobbins,H.K. Pulker,J. N. Butler,Peter M. Vallone,Michael D. Coble,Walther Parson,Burkhard Berger,Petra Grubwieser,Helle Smidt Mogensen,Niels Morling,Kristian Nielsen,Juan J. Sanchez,E. Petkovski,Angel Carracedo,Paula Sánchez-Diz,E. Ramos-Luis,M. Briōn,Jodi A. Irwin,Rebecca S. Just,Odile Loreille,Thomas J. Parsons,Denise Syndercombe-Court,H. Schmitter,Beate Stradmann-Bellinghausen,Klaus Bender,Peter Gill +26 more
TL;DR: It is recommended that existing STR loci are reengineered to provide smaller amplicons, and the adoption of three new European core loci has been agreed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Report of the European DNA profiling group (EDNAP) — towards standardisation of short tandem repeat (STR) loci
Peter Gill,C. Kimpton,Ernesto D'Aloja,J Andersen,Walter Bär,Bernd Brinkmann,S. Holgersson,V. Johnsson,A.D. Kloosterman,Maria Victoria Lareu,Lars J. Nellemann,H. Pfitzinger,Christopher Phillips,H. Schmitter,Peter M. Schneider,Margurethe Stenersen +15 more
TL;DR: A collaborative exercise to demonstrate whether uniformity of DNA profiling results could be achieved between European laboratories using short tandem repeat (STR) loci demonstrated that the simple STR systems such as HUMTH01 are more amenable to adoption as standard loci than complex AT-rich systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
The EDNAP mitochondrial DNA population database (EMPOP) collaborative exercises: organisation, results and perspectives.
Walther Parson,Anita Brandstätter,Antonio Alonso,Nathalie Brandt,Bernd Brinkmann,Angel Carracedo,Daniel Corach,Olivier Froment,Ivana Furač,Tomasz Grzybowski,Karin Hedberg,Christine Keyser-Tracqui,Tomasz Kupiec,Sabine Lutz-Bonengel,B. Mevåg,Rafał Płoski,H. Schmitter,Peter M. Schneider,Denise Syndercombe-Court,Eric Sørensen,Heather Thew,Gillian Tully,R. Scheithauer +22 more
TL;DR: The results and earlier published concerns strongly emphasize the need for appropriate safety regulations when mtDNA profiles are compiled for database purposes in order to accomplish the high standard required for mtDNA databases that are used in the forensic context.
Journal ArticleDOI
A brief history of the formation of DNA databases in forensic science within Europe.
TL;DR: The widespread use of commercially produced multiplex kits has produced a situation in which nearly all European laboratories are using compatible systems and there is the potential for the introduction of a pan-European DNA database, however, the exchange of results between countries is hampered by the various legislations which currently exist.
