Journal ArticleDOI
Co-morbidity of TDP-43 proteinopathy in Lewy body related diseases.
Hanae Nakashima-Yasuda,Kunihiro Uryu,John L. Robinson,Sharon X. Xie,Howard I. Hurtig,John E. Duda,Steven E. Arnold,Andrew Siderowf,Murray Grossman,James B. Leverenz,Randy Woltjer,Oscar L. Lopez,Ronald L. Hamilton,Debby W. Tsuang,Douglas Galasko,Eliezer Masliah,Jeffrey Kaye,Christopher M. Clark,Thomas J. Montine,Virginia M.-Y. Lee,John Q. Trojanowski +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated if TAR-DNA-binding protein-43 (TDP-43), the disease protein in frontotemporal lobar degeneration and ubiquitin inclusions with or without motor neuron disease as well as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also formed inclusions in Lewy body (LB) disorders including Parkinson's disease (PD) without or with dementia (PDD), and dementia with LBs (DLB) alone or in association with Alzheimer disease (AD).
Journal ArticleDOI
Concomitant TAR-DNA-binding protein 43 pathology is present in Alzheimer disease and corticobasal degeneration but not in other tauopathies.
Kunihiro Uryu,Hanae Nakashima-Yasuda,Mark S. Forman,Linda K. Kwong,Christopher M. Clark,Murray Grossman,Bruce L. Miller,Hans A. Kretzschmar,Virginia M.-Y. Lee,John Q. Trojanowski,Manuela Neumann +10 more
TL;DR: Findings provide further insight into the burden and clinical significance of TDP-43 pathology in disorders other than FTLD-U and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Absence of heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins and survival motor neuron protein in TDP-43 positive inclusions in frontotemporal lobar degeneration.
Manuela Neumann,Lionel M. Igaz,Linda K. Kwong,Hanae Nakashima-Yasuda,Stephen J. Kolb,Gideon Dreyfuss,Hans A. Kretzschmar,John Q. Trojanowski,Virginia M.-Y. Lee +8 more
TL;DR: No changes in subcellular distribution, no labeling of pathologic inclusions and no biochemical alterations were detectable for the tested hnRNPs and SMN in FTLD-U brains compared to controls, arguing against a role of these binding partners in the pathogenesis of FT LD-U and emphasize the specificity of TDP-43 as marker for FTLD -U pathology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Burden of neurodegenerative diseases in a cohort of medical examiner subjects.
Kunihiro Uryu,Terri Haddix,B S John Robinson,Hanae Nakashima-Yasuda,Virginia M.-Y. Lee,John Q. Trojanowski +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the burden of neurodegenerative neuropathologies in a cohort of Medical Examiner (ME) subjects from the County of Santa Clara (California) to determine if this unique population of decedents manifested evidence of neuro-degeneration that might underlie causes of death seen in an ME practice.
