TL;DR: A moderate individualized lifestyle intervention reduced the incidence of GDM by 39% in high-risk pregnant women and may have major health consequences for both the mother and the child.
Journal ArticleDOI
Elevation of both maternal and fetal extracellular circulating deoxyribonucleic acid concentrations in the plasma of pregnant women with preeclampsia.
Xiao Yan Zhong,Hannele Laivuori,Jeffrey C. Livingston,Olavi Ylikorkala,Bahaeddine M Sibai,Wolfgang Holzgreve,Sinuhe Hahn +6 more
TL;DR: The releases of both free fetal and maternal deoxyribonucleic acid were found to be affected in preeclampsia, and increases in these de oxygenribon nucleic acid levels corresponded to the severity of the disorder.
Journal ArticleDOI
The health of children conceived by ART: 'the chicken or the egg?'
Sine Berntsen,Viveca Söderström-Anttila,Ulla-Britt Wennerholm,Hannele Laivuori,Anne Loft,Nan B. Oldereid,Liv Bente Romundstad,Christina Bergh,Anja Pinborg +8 more
TL;DR: Risks for short- and long-term health in ART singletons are summarized and if the increased health risks are associated with intrinsic maternal or paternal factors related to subfertility or to the ART treatments per se is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence of a state of increased insulin resistance in preeclampsia.
Risto Kaaja,Risto Kaaja,Hannele Laivuori,Hannele Laivuori,Markku Laakso,Markku Laakso,Matti J. Tikkanen,Matti J. Tikkanen,Olavi Ylikorkala,Olavi Ylikorkala +9 more
TL;DR: Insulin sensitivity increased fourfold to fivefold within the first 3 postpartum months, but insulin sensitivity in preeclamptic women was still 26% lower than in control women, which may contribute to the excess cardiovascular morbidity among women with prior preeclampsia.
