Journal ArticleDOI
The prognostic importance of different definitions of worsening renal function in congestive heart failure.
Stephen S. Gottlieb,William T. Abraham,Javed Butler,Daniel E. Forman,Evan Loh,Barry M. Massie,Christopher M. O'Connor,Michael Rich,Lynne W. Stevenson,James B. Young,Harlan M. Krumholz +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that any detectable decrease in renal function is associated with increased mortality and prolonged hospital stay, and suggests that therapeutic interventions which improve renal function might be beneficial.
Journal ArticleDOI

Patterns of Hospital Performance in Acute Myocardial Infarction and Heart Failure 30-Day Mortality and Readmission
Harlan M. Krumholz,Angela Merrill,Eric M. Schone,Geoffrey C. Schreiner,Jersey Chen,Elizabeth H. Bradley,Yun Wang,Yongfei Wang,Zhenqiu Lin,Barry M. Straube,Michael T. Rapp,Sharon-Lise T. Normand,Elizabeth E. Drye +12 more
TL;DR: In a recent 3-year period, 30-day risk-standardized mortality rates for AMI and HF varied among hospitals and across the country, and the readmission rates were particularly high.
Journal ArticleDOI
Depressive symptoms and risk of functional decline and death in patients with heart failure
TL;DR: There was a strong and graded association between the severity of depressive symptoms at baseline and the rate of the combined end point of either functional decline or death at six months.
Journal ArticleDOI
National use and effectiveness of β - blockers for the treatment of elderly patients after acute myocardial infarction : National cooperative cardiovascular project.
TL;DR: After adjusting for potential confounders, beta-blockers were associated with a 14% lower risk of mortality at 1 year after discharge, consistent with the findings of randomized controlled trials of younger and lower-risk populations.
