Bookbinder,David Caldwell,Peter Cheimets,William N. Davis,Edward E. DeLuca,R. A. McMullen,Harry P. Warren,D. Amato,Richard R. Fisher,H. Maldonado,C. Parkinson +47 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a contract for the development and flight of an experiment to study the solar atmosphere with excellent spatial and temporal resolution; and reduction and analysis of the resultant data is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
A new view of the solar outer atmosphere by the transition region and Coronal Explorer
Carolus J. Schrijver,A. M. Title,Thomas E. Berger,Lyndsay Fletcher,Neal E. Hurlburt,R.W. Nightingale,R. A. Shine,T. D. Tarbell,J. Wolfson,Leon Golub,Jay A. Bookbinder,Edward E. DeLuca,R. A. McMullen,Harry P. Warren,Charles C. Kankelborg,B. N. Handy,B. De Pontieu +16 more
TL;DR: The Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE) as discussed by the authors provides an unprecedented view of the solar outer atmosphere, including the fine structure of the corona, the larger-scale thermal trends, the evolution of corona over quiet and active regions, the high incidence of chromospheric material dynamically embedded in the coronal environment, the dynamics and structure of conductively dominated transition region between chromosphere and corona.
Journal ArticleDOI
Time Variability of the “Quiet” Sun Observed with TRACE. II. Physical Parameters, Temperature Evolution, and Energetics of Extreme-Ultraviolet Nanoflares
Markus J. Aschwanden,Theodore D. Tarbell,R. W. Nightingale,Carolus J. Schrijver,Alan M. Title,Charles C. Kankelborg,P. C. H. Martens,Harry P. Warren +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed analysis of the geometric and physical parameters of 281 EUV nanoflares, simultaneously detected with the TRACE telescope in the 171 and 195 A wavelengths, is detailed.
Journal ArticleDOI
A systematic survey of high-temperature emission in solar active regions
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a systematic study of the differential emission measure distribution in 15 active region cores, focusing on measurements in the "inter-moss" region, that is, the region between the loop footpoints, where the observations are easier to interpret.
Journal ArticleDOI
New solar extreme-ultraviolet irradiance observations during flares
Thomas N. Woods,Rachel Hock,Frank Eparvier,Andrew R. Jones,Phillip C. Chamberlin,James A. Klimchuk,Leonid Didkovsky,Darrell L. Judge,John T. Mariska,Harry P. Warren,Carolus J. Schrijver,David F. Webb,Scott M. Bailey,W. Kent Tobiska +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors decomposed the solar extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) irradiance observations from the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) EUV Variability Experiment into four distinct characteristics during flares.
