The initial-final mass relation : direct constraints at the low-mass end

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present CFHT CFH12K photometric and Keck LRIS multi-object spectroscopic observations of 22 white dwarfs in two older open clusters, NGC 7789 and NGC 6819, and show that the observed general trend at higher masses continues down to low masses, with -->Minitial = 1.6 M? main-sequence stars forming -->Mfinal = 0.54 M? white dwarFS.
Journal ArticleDOI

The ACS Survey of Galactic Globular Clusters. X. New Determinations of Centers for 65 Clusters

TL;DR: In this paper, the centers of 65 Milky Way globular clusters were determined by fitting ellipses to the density distribution within the inner 2' of the cluster center, and averaging the centers.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Masses of Population II White Dwarfs

TL;DR: In this article, the properties of the white dwarfs near the tip of the cooling sequence in the nearest of the Milky Way globulars, M4.5, were characterized by presenting the first direct mass measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stellar Evolution in NGC 6791: Mass Loss on the Red Giant Branch and the Formation of Low-Mass White Dwarfs* **

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed study of the properties (temperatures, gravities, and masses) of the NGC 6791 white dwarf population is presented, which provides direct empirical evidence that mass loss is much more efficient in high-metallicity environments and therefore may be critical in interpreting the ultraviolet upturn in elliptical galaxies.
