Journal ArticleDOI
Mutations of the Human Homolog of Drosophila patched in the Nevoid Basal Cell Carcinoma Syndrome
Heidi Hahn,Carol Wicking,Peter G. Zaphiropoulos,Mae R. Gailani,Susan Shanley,Abirami Chidambaram,Igor Vorechovsky,Erika Holmberg,Anne Birgitte Undén,Susan Gillies,Kylie Negus,Ian M. Smyth,Carolyn Pressman,David J. Leffell,Bernard Gerrard,Alisa M. Goldstein,Michael Dean,Rune Toftgård,Georgia Chenevix-Trench,Brandon J. Wainwright,Allen E. Bale +20 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that a reduction in expression of the patched gene can lead to the developmental abnormalities observed in the syndrome and that complete loss of patched function contributes to transformation of certain cell types.
Journal ArticleDOI
NAD(P)H Oxidase and Multidrug Resistance Protein Genetic Polymorphisms Are Associated With Doxorubicin-Induced Cardiotoxicity
Leszek Wojnowski,Bettina Kulle,Markus D. Schirmer,Gregor Schlüter,Albrecht Schmidt,Albert Rosenberger,Stefan Vonhof,Heike Bickeböller,Mohammad R. Toliat,Eun-Kyung Suk,Mladen V. Tzvetkov,Anke Kruger,Silvia Seifert,Marita Kloess,Heidi Hahn,Markus Loeffler,Peter Nürnberg,Michael Pfreundschuh,Lorenz Trümper,Jürgen Brockmöller,Gerd Hasenfuss +20 more
TL;DR: Genetic variants in doxorubicin transport and free radical metabolism may modulate the individual risk to develop ACT.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rhabdomyosarcomas and radiation hypersensitivity in a mouse model of Gorlin syndrome
Heidi Hahn,Leszek Wojnowski,Anne M. Zimmer,Jennifer L. Hall,Georgina F. Miller,Andreas Zimmer +5 more
TL;DR: It is shown that ptc heterozygous mice exhibit increased incidence of radiation-induced teratogenesis, which suggests a role for ptc in the response to ionizing radiation and provides a model for both the systemic and stochastic abnormalities observed in Gorlin syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endothelial apoptosis in Braf-deficient mice
Leszek Wojnowski,Anne M. Zimmer,Thomas William Beck,Heidi Hahn,Ricardo A. Bernal,Ulf R. Rapp,Andreas Zimmer +6 more
TL;DR: It is shown that mice with a targeted disruption in the Braf gene die of vascular defects during mid-gestation, and this work provides the first genetic evidence for an essential role of a Raf gene in the regulation of programmed cell death.
Journal ArticleDOI
A mammalian patched homolog is expressed in target tissues of sonic hedgehog and maps to a region associated with developmental abnormalities
Heidi Hahn,Jeffrey H. Christiansen,Carol Wicking,Peter G. Zaphiropoulos,Abirami Chidambaram,Bernard Gerrard,Igor Vorechovsky,Allen E. Bale,Rune Toftgård,Michael Dean,Brandon J. Wainwright +10 more
TL;DR: The results show that patched is expressed in target tissues of sonic hedgehog, a murine homolog of Drosophila hedgehog suggesting that patched/hedgehog interactions have been conserved during evolution.
