Journal ArticleDOI
Randomized comparison of synchronous CABG and carotid endarterectomy vs. isolated CABG in patients with asymptomatic carotid stenosis: the CABACS trial.
Stephan Knipp,André Scherag,Friedhelm Beyersdorf,J. Cremer,Hans-Christoph Diener,J. A. Haverich,Heinz Jakob,W. Mohr,Claudia Ose,Hermann Reichenspurner,G. Walterbusch,Armin Welz,Christian Weimar +12 more
TL;DR: The results of this trial are expected to provide a basis for defining an evidence-based standard and will have a wide impact on managing this disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Conventional aortic valve replacement or transcatheter aortic valve implantation in patients with previous cardiac surgery.
Daniel Wendt,Fadi Al-Rashid,Philipp Kahlert,Karim El-Chilali,Ender Demircioglu,Markus Neuhäuser,Oliver J. Liakopoulos,Daniel Sebastian Dohle,Raimund Erbel,Heinz Jakob,Matthias Thielmann +10 more
TL;DR: The present study shows that in patients with cardiac reoperation, TAVI comes with similar outcomes when compared to surgical AVR, and conventional redo-AVR is still a valuable and safe treatment option.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intravascular ultrasound assisted sizing in thoracic endovascular aortic repair improves aortic remodeling in Type B aortic dissection.
Julia Lortz,Konstantinos Tsagakis,Christos Rammos,Michael Horacek,Thomas Schlosser,Heinz Jakob,Tienush Rassaf,Rolf Alexander Jánosi +7 more
TL;DR: In this single-center retrospective study, patients with Type B aortic dissection undergoing both CT and IVUS before TEVAR were evaluated and IV US-guided stent graft sizing shows beneficial effects on aorti remodeling and might be of additional advantage in aortsic diseases, especially when CT image quality is poor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perfusing and ventilating the patient's lungs during bypass ameliorates the increase in extravascular thermal volume after coronary bypass grafting.
Parwis Massoudy,Jarowit Piotrowski,Henry C.J.M van de Wal,Reiner M. Giebler,Günter Marggraf,Jürgen Peters,Heinz Jakob +6 more
TL;DR: Despite a significantly greater prime volume and a more positive intraoperative fluid balance, ETV did not change with bilateral ECC but increased with conventional CPB, which mitigates the increase in extravascular pulmonary fluid.
Journal ArticleDOI
Left subclavian artery rerouting and selective perfusion management in frozen elephant trunk surgery.
Konstantinos Tsagakis,Daniel Sebastian Dohle,Daniel Wendt,Wolf Wiese,Jaroslav Benedik,Helmut Lieder,Matthias Thielmann,Heinz Jakob +7 more
TL;DR: The selective perfusion of all arch arteries and the downstream aorta during open arch repair reduces the ischemic times and may improve organ protection.
