Arlene A. Forastiere,Helmuth Goepfert,Moshe H. Maor,Thomas F. Pajak,Randal S. Weber,William H. Morrison,Bonnie S. Glisson,Andy Trotti,John A. Ridge,C. Chao,Glen Peters,Ding Jen Lee,Andrea Leaf,John F. Ensley,Jay S. Cooper +14 more
TL;DR: In patients with laryngeal cancer, radiotherapy with concurrent administration of cisplatin is superior to induction chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy or radiotherapy alone for larynGEal preservation and locoregional control.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevention of second primary tumors with isotretinoin in squamous-cell carcinoma of the head and neck.
Waun Ki Hong,Scott M. Lippman,Loretta M. Itri,Daniel D. Karp,Jin S. Lee,Robert M. Byers,Stimson P. Schantz,Alan M. Kramer,Reuben Lotan,Lester J. Peters,Isaiah W. Dimery,Barry W. Brown,Helmuth Goepfert +12 more
TL;DR: Daily treatment with high doses of isotretinoin is effective in preventing second primary tumors in patients who have been treated for squamous-cell carcinoma of the head and neck, although it does not prevent recurrences of the original tumor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-Term Results of RTOG 91-11: A Comparison of Three Nonsurgical Treatment Strategies to Preserve the Larynx in Patients With Locally Advanced Larynx Cancer
Arlene A. Forastiere,Qiang Zhang,Randal S. Weber,Moshe H. Maor,Helmuth Goepfert,Thomas F. Pajak,William H. Morrison,Bonnie S. Glisson,Andy Trotti,John A. Ridge,Wade L. Thorstad,Henry N. Wagner,John F. Ensley,Jay S. Cooper +13 more
TL;DR: These 10-year results show that induction PF followed by RT and concomitant cisplatin/RT show similar efficacy for the composite end point of LFS, and new strategies that improve organ preservation and function with less morbidity are needed.
Journal Article
The development and validation of a dysphagia-specific quality-of-life questionnaire for patients with head and neck cancer: the M. D. Anderson dysphagia inventory.
Amy Y. Chen,Ralph F. Frankowski,Julie K. Bishop-Leone,Tiffany Hebert,Stacy Leyk,Jan S. Lewin,Helmuth Goepfert,Helmuth Goepfert +7 more
TL;DR: The MDADI is the first validated and reliable self-administered questionnaire designed specifically for evaluating the impact of dysphagia on the QOL of patients with head and neck cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
The results of various modalities of treatment of well differentiated thyroid carcinomas: a retrospective review of 1599 patients.
Naguib A. Samaan,Pamela N. Schultz,Robert C. Hickey,Helmuth Goepfert,T. P. Haynie,Dennis A. Johnston,Nelson G. Ordóñez +6 more
TL;DR: Treatment with radioactive iodine was the single most powerful prognostic indicator for increased disease-free interval (P less than 0.001) and that its use significantly increased survival as well and no benefit was obtained from treatment with external radiotherapy.
