Journal ArticleDOI

Importance and vulnerability of the world's water towers

TL;DR: The worldwide distribution and water supply of water towers (snowy or glacierized mountain ranges) is indexed, showing that the most important water towers are also the most vulnerable to socio-economic and climate-change stresses, with huge potential negative impacts on populations downstream.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impact of reservoirs on river discharge and irrigation water supply during the 20th century

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a quantitative estimation of the impact of reservoirs on discharge and irrigation water supply during the 20th century at global, continental, and river basin scale.
Journal ArticleDOI

Accounting for environmental flow requirements in global water assessments

TL;DR: In this paper, five EF methods for calculating environmental flow requirements (EFRs) were compared with 11 case studies of locally assessed EFRs and the results showed that, on average, 37% of annual discharge was required to sustain environmental flow requirement.
Journal ArticleDOI

Selecting representative climate models for climate change impact studies : An advanced envelope-based selection approach

TL;DR: In this paper, a three-step sequential climate model selection procedure was proposed for a study area covering the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra river basins, and the results showed that the future climate projections in this area are highly uncertain but that changes are imminent.
