Journal ArticleDOI
Development of a numerical simulation system toward comprehensive assessments of urban warming countermeasures including their impacts upon the urban buildings' energy-demands
TL;DR: In this article, a numerical simulation system was developed adopting a new one-dimensional urban canopy meteorological model coupled with a simple sub-model for the building energy analysis to simulate the increase in cooling energy demands and evaluate urban warming countermeasures from the viewpoint of buildings' energy savings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of a Multi-Layer Urban Canopy Model for the Analysis of Energy Consumption in a Big City: Structure of the Urban Canopy Model and its Basic Performance
Hiroaki Kondo,Yutaka Genchi,Yukihiro Kikegawa,Yukitaka Ohashi,Hiroshi Yoshikado,Hiroshi Komiyama +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, a multilayer one-dimensional canopy model was developed to analyze the relationship between urban warming and the increase in energy consumption in a big city, which consists of one dimensional diffusion equations with a drag force, has three major parameters: building width, distance between buildings, and vertical floor density distribution.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of Air-Conditioning Waste Heat on Air Temperature in Tokyo during Summer: Numerical Experiments Using an Urban Canopy Model Coupled with a Building Energy Model
Yukitaka Ohashi,Yutaka Genchi,Hiroaki Kondo,Yukihiro Kikegawa,Hiroshi Yoshikado,Yujiro Hirano +5 more
TL;DR: A coupled model consisting of a multilayer urban canopy model and a building energy analysis model has been developed to investigate the diurnal variations of outdoor air temperature in the office areas of Tokyo, Japan as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemical forms and sources of extremely high nitrate and chloride in winter aerosol pollution in the Kanto Plain of Japan
TL;DR: In this article, the spatial distribution, chemical forms, and potential sources have been investigated for extremely high concentrations of Cl and NO-3 in aerosols collected during an extensive study for winter pollution episodes in the Kanto Plain of Japan.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inland penetration of the sea breeze over the suburban area of Tokyo
Hiroshi Yoshikado,Hiroaki Kondo +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the structure of the sea breeze over the urban and suburban areas of Tokyo for four summer days and found that the vertical motion accompanying the local wind system works as a feedback mechanism to control the local winds by modifying the thermal and pressure fields.
