Journal ArticleDOI
A RuBisCO-mediated carbon metabolic pathway in methanogenic archaea
Takunari Kono,Sandhya Mehrotra,Chikako Endo,Natsuko Kizu,Mami Matusda,Hiroyuki Kimura,Eiichi Mizohata,Tsuyoshi Inoue,Tomohisa Hasunuma,Akiho Yokota,Hiroyoshi Matsumura,Hiroki Ashida +11 more
TL;DR: Capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometric analysis of metabolites reveals that the RHP pathway, which differs from the Calvin–Benson cycle only in a few steps, is active in vivo and highlights evolutionary and functional links between RuBisCO-mediated carbon metabolic pathways in methanogenic archaea and photosynthesis organisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomass of thraustochytrid protoctists in coastal water
TL;DR: It is suggested that the contribution of thraustochytrids to the microbial food chain and carbon cycling through organic degradation and production may not be negligible.
Journal ArticleDOI
Abundance of Zetaproteobacteria within crustal fluids in back-arc hydrothermal fields of the Southern Mariana Trough.
Shingo Kato,Katsunori Yanagawa,Michinari Sunamura,Yoshinori Takano,Jun-ichiro Ishibashi,Takeshi Kakegawa,Motoo Utsumi,Toshiro Yamanaka,Tomohiro Toki,Takuroh Noguchi,Kensei Kobayashi,Arimichi Moroi,Hiroyuki Kimura,Yutaka Kawarabayasi,Katsumi Marumo,Tetsuro Urabe,Akihiko Yamagishi +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the abundance, diversity and composition of microbial communities in crustal fluids at back-arc hydrothermal fields of the Southern Mariana Trough (SMT) were investigated using culture-independent molecular techniques based on 16S rRNA gene sequences.
Journal ArticleDOI
Abundance of thraustochytrids in coastal plankton
TL;DR: It is suggested that thraustochytrids play an ecological role as alternative food sources for picoplankton feeders, as well as being actlve degraders and consumers in aquatic microbial food chains.
Abundance of Zetaproteobacteria within crustal fluids in back-arc hydrothermal fields of the Southern
Mariana Trough,Shingo Kato,Katsunori Yanagawa,Michinari Sunamura,Yoshinori Takano,Jun-ichiro Ishibashi,Takeshi Kakegawa,Motoo Utsumi,Toshiro Yamanaka,Tomohiro Toki,Takuroh Noguchi,Kensei Kobayashi,Arimichi Moroi,Hiroyuki Kimura,Yutaka Kawarabayasi,Katsumi Marumo,Tetsuro Urabe,Akihiko Yamagishi +17 more
TL;DR: The results lead to the hypothesis that the Zetaproteobacteria play a role in iron oxidation within the oceanic crust.
