Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of human papillomavirus in oropharyngeal and nonoropharyngeal head and neck cancer--systematic review and meta-analysis of trends by time and region.
Hisham Mehanna,Tom Beech,Thomas Nicholson,Iman El-Hariry,Christopher C. McConkey,Vinidh Paleri,Sally Roberts +6 more
TL;DR: Little information has been reported on regional and time trends of human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence rates of oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) and non‐OPC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Radiotherapy plus cisplatin or cetuximab in low-risk human papillomavirus-positive oropharyngeal cancer (De-ESCALaTE HPV): an open-label randomised controlled phase 3 trial.
Hisham Mehanna,Max Robinson,Andrew Hartley,Anthony Kong,Bernadette Foran,T. Fulton-Lieuw,M. Dalby,Pankaj Mistry,Mehmet Sen,L. O'Toole,Al, Booz, H,Karen Dyker,Rafael Moleron,S Whitaker,S. McConkey,Alastair Gray,Janet A. Dunn +30 more
TL;DR: Cisplatin and radiotherapy should be used as the standard of care for HPV-positive low-risk patients who are able to tolerate cisplatin, and cetuximab showed significant detriment in terms of tumour control.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bravo,Wim Quint,Michael Pawlita,Nubia Muñoz,Silvia de Sanjosé,F. Xavier Bosch +61 more
TL;DR: This large international study to estimate fractions of head and neck cancers attributable to human papillomavirus (HPV-AFs) using six HPV-related biomarkers of viral detection, transcription, and cellular transformation confirms the important role ofHPVs in oropharyngeal cancer and drastically downplays the previously reported involvement of HPVs in the other HNCs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Refeeding syndrome: what it is, and how to prevent and treat it
TL;DR: This article draws attention to the NICE guidelines on nutritional support in adults, with particular reference to the new recommendations for best practice in refeeding syndrome, which differ in parts from—and improve on—previous guidelines.
Journal ArticleDOI
PET-CT Surveillance versus Neck Dissection in Advanced Head and Neck Cancer
Hisham Mehanna,Wai-Lup Wong,Christopher C. McConkey,Joy K Rahman,Max Robinson,Andrew Hartley,Christopher M. Nutting,Ned George Powell,H. Al-Booz,Martin Robinson,Elizabeth Junor,M. Rizwanullah,Sandra Ventorin Von Zeidler,Hulya Wieshmann,Claire Hulme,Alison Smith,Peter Hall,Janet A. Dunn +17 more
TL;DR: Survival was similar among patients who underwent PET-CT-guided surveillance and those who underwent planned neck dissection, but surveillance resulted in considerably fewer operations and it was more cost-effective.
