Chemistry of Carbon Nanotubes

This Review summarizes recent progress in the development of polymer solar cells. It covers the scientific origins and basic properties of polymer solar cell technology, material requirements and device operation mechanisms, while also providing a synopsis of major achievements in the field over the past few years. Potential future developments and the applications of this technology are also briefly discussed.

Synthesis of Conjugated Polymers for Organic Solar Cell Applications

In animal cells, microtubules are organized by centrosomes, which are 1-2 microm diameter organelles. The generation of functional centrosome fragments in-vitro through ultrasonication is presented along with microtubule assembly directed by the patterned centrosome fragments. While centrosome fragments are smaller than the fully constituted centrosomes, their microtubule organization function is retained. The centrosome fragment templates offer greater flexibility and better coverage in both patterning and assembly of microtubules when compared with intact centrosomes. This work provides the rationale and potential for the large-area assembly of microtubules and should expand the application of centrosomes and centrosome components for the creation of microtubule-based nanoscale devices.

Bias temperature instability of metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) with various concentrations of La incorporation in Hf-based dielectrics was characterized by varying the magnitude and polarity of the stress biases. Contrasting dependences of charge trapping on the magnitude of the stress biases are shown by changing the bias polarity. A model based on the distortion of asymmetric energy band diagrams and La-induced interface dipoles is suggested to explain this behaviour. Change of gate leakage currents according to La-incorporation, magnitude, and polarity of bias stresses supports the validity of the model.

The present invention relates to a hybrid layer including an oxide layer or organic layer, and organic polymer layer, an insulating layer including the hybrid layer, and an electronic device such as an organic field-effect transistor. A hybrid layer according to the present invention may include an oxide layer or an organic layer, and an organic polymer layer chemically combined with the oxide layer or the organic layer.

Hybrid layer including oxide layer or organic layer and organic polymer layer and manufacturing method thereof

We report that the water repellency of polymeric film surfaces can be simply tuned by pressing softened polymer films into porous anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) templates. Highly-dense nano-pillars and nano-hairs on the polymer surfaces are reproduced via physically or chemically separating the AAO templates from the impressed polymer films. The resulting polymeric nano-textures show various aspect ratios (ARs) between height and cross-sectional diameter (from 2 to 130), depending on the viscoelastic response of the polymer chains during hot AAO pressing and the subsequent separation procedures. The water contact angle values on the nano-textured polymer films considerably changed from 91° to 160° with an increase in AR. Using hot pressing and physical detachment of a porous AAO-covered Al cylinder roller, we successfully demonstrated the potential for large-area fabrication of superhydrophobic polymer films with characteristics that are similar to lotus leaves.
