Journal ArticleDOI

Genome sequence of Halobacterium species NRC-1

TL;DR: Analysis of the genome sequence shows the presence of pathways for uptake and utilization of amino acids, active sodium-proton antiporter and potassium uptake systems, sophisticated photosensory and signal transduction pathways, and DNA replication, transcription, and translation systems resembling more complex eukaryotic organisms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Homologs of Small Nucleolar RNAs in Archaea

TL;DR: Over 200 additional sRNAs were identified in seven archaeal genomes representing both the Crenarchaeota and the EuryarchAEota, suggesting snoRNA-based rRNA processing was probably present in the last common ancestor of Archaea and Eukarya, predating the evolution of a morphologically distinct nucleolus.
Journal ArticleDOI

In vitro reconstitution and activity of a C/D box methylation guide ribonucleoprotein complex.

TL;DR: The experiments define the minimal number of components and the conditions required to achieve in vitro RNA guide-directed 2′-O-methylation of ribose in a target RNA.
Journal ArticleDOI

Substrate requirements for a novel archaeal endonuclease that cleaves within the 5' external transcribed spacer of Sulfolobus acidocaldarius precursor rRNA.

TL;DR: It is shown that the sequence AAG downward arrow (CA)UU encompassing each site contains at least some of the essential features for recognition and efficient targeting of the cleavages.
