Journal ArticleDOI
Targeting the Midgut Secreted PpChit1 Reduces Leishmania major Development in Its Natural Vector, the Sand Fly Phlebotomus papatasi
TL;DR: The data supports targeting PpChit1 as a potential transmission blocking vaccine candidate against leishmaniasis and predicts that silencing of sand fly chitinase will lead to reduction or elimination of Leishmania within the gut of the sand fly vector.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lutzomyia longipalpis s.l . in Brazil and the impact of the Sao Francisco River in the speciation of this sand fly vector
Iliano V. Coutinho-Abreu,Iliano V. Coutinho-Abreu,I. V. Sonoda,Jose A Fonseca,Marcia Almeida de Melo,Valdir de Queiroz Balbino,Marcelo Ramalho-Ortigao +6 more
TL;DR: Overall, the polymorphisms on the cyt b haplotypes and the current speciation process detected in Lu.
Journal ArticleDOI
SALO, a novel classical pathway complement inhibitor from saliva of the sand fly Lutzomyia longipalpis.
Viviana P. Ferreira,Vladimir Fazito do Vale,Michael K. Pangburn,Maha Abdeladhim,Antonio Ferreira Mendes-Sousa,Iliano V. Coutinho-Abreu,Manoochehr Rasouli,Elizabeth A. Brandt,Claudio Meneses,Kolyvan Ferreira Lima,Ricardo Nascimento Araújo,Marcos H. Pereira,Michalis Kotsyfakis,Fabiano Oliveira,Shaden Kamhawi,José M. C. Ribeiro,Nelder F. Gontijo,Nicolas Collin,Jesus G. Valenzuela +18 more
TL;DR: The data shows that SALO is a specific classical pathway complement inhibitor present in the saliva of Lu.
Journal ArticleDOI
Safety and immunogenicity of a mosquito saliva peptide-based vaccine: a randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind, phase 1 trial.
Jessica E. Manning,Fabiano Oliveira,Iliano V. Coutinho-Abreu,Samantha M Herbert,Claudio Meneses,Shaden Kamhawi,Holly Ann Baus,Alison Han,Lindsay Czajkowski,Luz Angela Rosas,Adriana Cervantes-Medina,Rani Athota,Susan Reed,Allyson Mateja,Sally Hunsberger,Emma James,Olga Pleguezuelos,Gregory Alan Stoloff,Jesus G. Valenzuela,Matthew J. Memoli +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the safety and immunogenicity of the Anopheles gambiae saliva vaccine (AGS-v) were evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, phase 1 trial.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic structure of natural populations of the sand fly Lutzomyia longipalpis (Diptera: Psychodidae) from the Brazilian northeastern region
Valdir de Queiroz Balbino,Iliano V. Coutinho-Abreu,I. V. Sonoda,Marcia Almeida de Melo,Paulo Paes de Andrade,José Adail Fonseca de Castro,José Manuel Macário Rebêlo,Sílvia Maria Santos Carvalho,Marcelo Ramalho-Ortigao +8 more
TL;DR: The genetic structuring patterns based on polymorphism analysis of 24 RAPD-PCR loci of 7 natural populations of Lutzomyia longipalpis obtained from Brazil's northeastern region suggest a moderate degree of geneticStructuring as a result of geographical isolation and restricted gene flow.
