Journal ArticleDOI
Prevention of viral transmission during lung transplantation with hepatitis C-viraemic donors: an open-label, single-centre, pilot trial.
Marcelo Cypel,Marcelo Cypel,Jordan J. Feld,M. Galasso,R. Ribeiro,N. Marks,Magdalena Kuczynski,Deepali Kumar,Ilona Bahinskaya,Vanderlei Salvador Bagnato,Cristina Kurachi,Arthur S. Slutsky,Jonathan C. Waddell,Thomas K. Waddell,Shaf Keshavjee,Shaf Keshavjee,Lianne G. Singer,Atul Humar +36 more
TL;DR: This single centre, prospective, open-label, non-randomised trial aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of lung transplantation in humans from HCV-positive donors toHCV-negative recipients after application of ex-vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) plus ultraviolet C (UVC) perfusate irradiation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Short-course, direct-acting antivirals and ezetimibe to prevent HCV infection in recipients of organs from HCV-infected donors: a phase 3, single-centre, open-label study
Jordan J. Feld,Marcelo Cypel,Deepali Kumar,Harel Dahari,R. Ribeiro,N. Marks,Nellie Kamkar,Ilona Bahinskaya,Fernanda Q. Onofrio,Mohamed A Zahoor,Orlando Cerrochi,Kathryn Tinckam,S. Singer,Atul Humar +25 more
TL;DR: This study shows that an ultra-short course of direct-acting antivirals and ezetimibe can prevent the establishment of chronic HCV infection in the recipient, alleviating many of the concerns with transplanting organs from HCV-infected donors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of Vaccination and Early Monoclonal Antibody Therapy on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Outcomes in Organ Transplant Recipients During the Omicron Wave
J. Solera,Berta G Arbol,Abdullah Mobarak Saeed Alshahrani,Ilona Bahinskaya,Nikki Marks,Atul Humar,Deepali Kumar +6 more
TL;DR: In a cohort of SOT recipients with Omicron variant COVID-19 infection, prior receipt of ≥3 mRNA vaccine doses and early monoclonal antibody therapy were independently associated with significantly reduced disease severity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improving our mechanistic understanding of the indirect effects of CMV infection in transplant recipients.
TL;DR: Novel ex vivo evidence is provided to support indirect effects of CMV that CMV infection increases susceptibility to bacterial, fungal, and other viral infections, and inherent differences in patients not directly related to CMV also contribute to this increased susceptibility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Short-course early outpatient remdesivir prevents severe disease due to COVID-19 in organ transplant recipients during the omicron BA.2 wave
TL;DR: In a cohort of SOTr with COVID‐19 infection, administration of 3‐dose early remdesivir independently reduced the disease severity and significantly decreased the hospitalization rate.
