New insights into the colour origin of archaeological Egyptian blue and green by XAFS at the Cu K-edge

TL;DR: In this article, the local chemical environment of Cu2+ in archaeological Egyptian blue and green and also modern Egyptian green were obtained by x-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Development of a nondestructive method for underglaze painted tiles—demonstrated by the analysis of Persian objects from the nineteenth century

TL;DR: An analytical method developed for the nondestructive study of nineteenth-century Persian polychrome underglaze painted tiles established the presence of Cr- and U-based colorants as new materials in nineteenth- century Persian tilemaking.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fingerprinting ancient gold by measuring Pt with spatially resolved high energy Sy-XRF

TL;DR: In this article, the L-lines of Pt were excited by a beam of energy above and below 11.564 keV and measured using a Si(Li) detector with a 50μm Cu filter.
Journal ArticleDOI

Can we Use Calcined Bones for 14C Dating the Paleolithic

TL;DR: In this paper, the reliability of calcined bones for radiocarbon dating of the Paleolithic was evaluated using a set of macroscopic features, and the results indicated that sulfix should be avoided if possible and that clean CO2 gas from well calcined Paleolithic bones can provide reliable 14C ages.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synchrotron radiation and cultural heritage: combined XANES/XRF study at Mn K-edge of blue, grey or black coloured palaeontological and archaeological bone material

TL;DR: In this paper, the results obtained on coloured palaeontological and archaeological bone and ivory materials by combined microXANES/XRF at Mn K-edge at ID 21 beamline at ESRF were presented.
