Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic risk and atrial fibrillation in patients with heart failure
Mariëlle Kloosterman,Bernadet T. Santema,Carolina Roselli,Carolina Roselli,Christopher P. Nelson,Andrea Koekemoer,Simon P. R. Romaine,Isabelle C. Van Gelder,Carolyn S.P. Lam,Vicente A. Artola,Chim C. Lang,Leong L. Ng,Marco Metra,Stefan D. Anker,Gerasimos Filippatos,Kenneth Dickstein,Piotr Ponikowski,Pim van der Harst,Peter van der Meer,Dirk J. van Veldhuisen,Emelia J. Benjamin,Adriaan A. Voors,Nilesh J. Samani,Michiel Rienstra +23 more
TL;DR: To study the association between an atrial fibrillation genetic risk score with prevalent AF and all‐cause mortality in patients with heart failure, a genome-wide association study is conducted.
Book ChapterDOI
Drugs after cardioversion to prevent relapses of chronic atrial fibrillation or flutter
Harry J.G.M. Crijns,A T Marcel Gosselink,Isabelle C. Van Gelder,Ans C.P. Wiesfeld,Maarten P. van den Berg,Ype S. Tuininga,Kong I. Lie +6 more
TL;DR: This chapter deals with the pharmacologic treatment modalities in the prevention of recurrences of chronic atrial fibrillation and flutter and prevention of thromboembolism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Is inflammation a risk factor for recurrent atrial fibrillation
TL;DR: Patients at risk of developing AF must be identified to be able to implement preventative strategies and the existence of post-operative AF would suggest that inflammation precedes AF, as surgery causes a strong inflammatory process which involves complement activation and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rate control drugs differ in the prevention of progression of atrial fibrillation.
Tim Koldenhof,Petra Wijtvliet,Nikki A H A Pluymaekers,Michiel Rienstra,Richard J Folkeringa,Patrick Bronzwaer,Arif Elvan,Jan Elders,Raymond Tukkie,Justin G.L.M. Luermans,Sander M. J. van Kuijk,Jan G.P. Tijssen,Isabelle C. Van Gelder,Harry J.G.M. Crijns,Robert G. Tieleman +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of rate control medication on atrial fibrillation (AF) progression in paroxysmal AF patients was analyzed using a pre-specified post hoc analysis of the RACE 4 randomized trial.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in quality of life, cognition and functional status following catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation
Jonathan P. Piccini,Derick Todd,Tyler Massaro,Aimee Lougee,Karl Georg Haeusler,Benjamin F. Blank,Joseph de Bono,David J. Callans,Arif Elvan,Thomas Fetsch,Isabelle C. Van Gelder,Philip J. Gentlesk,Massimo Grimaldi,Jim Hansen,Gerhard Hindricks,Hussein R. Al-Khalidi,Lluís Mont,Jens Cosedis Nielsen,Georg Noelker,Tom de Potter,Daniel Scherr,Daniel Scherr,Ulrich Schotten,Sakis Themistoclakis,Johan Vijgen,Luigi Di Biase,Paulus Kirchhof +26 more
TL;DR: Patients without recurrent AT/AF appear to experience greater improvement in functional status but similar QoL as those with recurrent atrial tachycardia (AT)/AF after AF ablation.
