Journal ArticleDOI
Polar organic marker compounds in PM2.5 aerosol from a mixed forest site in western Germany
TL;DR: The characteristic molecular distribution of the fatty acids with a strong even/odd number carbon preference indicates a biological origin, while the presence of isoprene and terpene secondary organic aerosol products suggests that the photooxidation of BVOCs contributes to aerosol formation at this site.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemical characterisation of marine aerosol at Amsterdam Island during the austral summer of 2006-2007
Magda Claeys,Wan Wang,Reinhilde Vermeylen,Ivan Kourtchev,Xuguang Chi,Yasmeen Farhat,Yasmeen Farhat,Jason D. Surratt,Yadian Gómez-González,Jean Sciare,Willy Maenhaut +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a major objective of the study was to assess biogenic impact on the marine aerosol, and the results showed that sea salt dominated the composition of the aerosol and accounted for 83% and 91% of the sum of the mass of the four aerosol types in the fine and coarse size fractions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of Atmospheric Aerosols at a Forested Site in Central Europe
TL;DR: Mass concentrations, mass size distributions, time series, and diel variations for organic tracers and major inorganic ions in aerosols from K-puszta, Hungary, during a 2003 summer period are reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Source apportionment of PM 2.5 in Cork Harbour, Ireland using a combination of single particle mass spectrometry and quantitative semi-continuous measurements
Robert M. Healy,Stig Hellebust,Ivan Kourtchev,Arnaud Allanic,Ian P. O'Connor,Jenny M. Bell,David A. Healy,John R. Sodeau,John C. Wenger +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an aerosol time-of-flight mass spectrometer (ATOFMS) was deployed for the measurement of the size resolved chemical composition of single particles at a site in Cork Harbour, Ireland for three weeks in August 2008.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determination of isoprene and α‐/β‐pinene oxidation products in boreal forest aerosols from Hyytiälä, Finland: diel variations and possible link with particle formation events
Ivan Kourtchev,T. M. Ruuskanen,Petri Keronen,Larisa Sogacheva,M. Dal Maso,Anni Reissell,Xuguang Chi,Reinhilde Vermeylen,Markku Kulmala,Willy Maenhaut,Magda Claeys +10 more
TL;DR: Both the isoprene and alpha-/beta-pinene SOA products were strongly influenced by SO(2), which is consistent with earlier reports that acidity plays a role in SOA formation, and support previous proposals that oxygenated VOCs contribute to particle growth processes above boreal forest.
