Cloud condensation nuclei activity, droplet growth kinetics, and hygroscopicity of biogenic and anthropogenic secondary organic aerosol (SOA)
Defeng Zhao,Angela Buchholz,Angela Buchholz,B. Kortner,Patrick Schlag,Florian Rubach,Florian Rubach,Hendrik Fuchs,Astrid Kiendler-Scharr,Ralf Tillmann,Andreas Wahner,Ågot K. Watne,Mattias Hallquist,J. M. Flores,Yinon Rudich,Kasper Kristensen,A. M. K. Hansen,Marianne Glasius,Ivan Kourtchev,Markus Kalberer,Th. F. Mentel +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated cloud droplet activation (CCN activity), droplet growth kinetics, and hygroscopicity of mixed anthropogenic and biogenic SOA (ABSOA) compared to pure biogenic SA and pure anthropogenic SA (ASOA). Selected monoterpenes and aromatics were used as representative precursors of BSOA and ASOA.
Journal ArticleDOI

Andreae,Manabu Shiraiwa,Ulrich Pöschl,Thorsten Hoffmann,Markus Kalberer,Markus Kalberer +40 more
TL;DR: This study provides new insights into the chemical relationship of HOM abundance, composition, and sources with the yield of radicals by laboratory and ambient aerosols, enabling better quantification of source- or site-specific fine PM to its climate and health effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular composition of organic aerosols at urban background and road tunnel sites using ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry
Haijie Tong,Ivan Kourtchev,Pallavi Pant,Ian J. Keyte,Ian P. O'Connor,John C. Wenger,Francis D. Pope,Roy M. Harrison,Markus Kalberer +8 more
TL;DR: The overall particle composition at an urban background site and road tunnel in Birmingham, UK, are compared with an industrial harbour site in Cork, Ireland, with special emphasis on oxidised mono-aromatics, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and nitro-Aromatics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of anthropogenic and biogenic sources on the seasonal variation in the molecular composition of urban organic aerosols: A field and laboratory study using ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometry
Kaspar R. Daellenbach,Kaspar R. Daellenbach,Ivan Kourtchev,Alexander L. Vogel,Alexander L. Vogel,Emily A. Bruns,Jianhui Jiang,Tuukka Petäjä,Jean-Luc Jaffrezo,Sebnem Aksoyoglu,Markus Kalberer,Markus Kalberer,Urs Baltensperger,Imad El Haddad,André S. H. Prévôt +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the molecular composition of organic aerosol (OA) using ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometry (Orbitrap) at an urban site in Central Europe (Zurich, Switzerland).
Journal ArticleDOI
Gas-phase reaction of (E)-β-farnesene with ozone: Rate coefficient and carbonyl products
TL;DR: In this article, a detailed mechanism for the gas-phase ozonolysis of (E)-β-farnesene is proposed, which accounts for all of the products observed in this study, including 4-oxopentanal, methylglyoxal, 4-methylenehex-5enal, 6-methylhept-5-en-2-one, and (E)4-methyl-8-methylenedeca-4,9-dienal.
