Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of immunoreactive proteins during acute human giardiasis.

TL;DR: Sixteen immunoreactive proteins were identified using mass spectrometry analysis, among them variable surface proteins, alpha-giardins, arginine deiminase, ornithine carbamoyl transferase, and fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase which may be important in the development of new diagnostic tools and vaccines.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polymeric Immunoglobulin Receptor in Intestinal Immune Defense against the Lumen-Dwelling Protozoan Parasite Giardia

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that pIgR can play a critical role in intestinal defense against the lumen-dwelling protozoan parasite Giardia, a leading cause of diarrheal disease, and prior data on pIGR-mediated immune neutralization of luminal cholera toxin suggest that the receptor is essential in intestinaldefense against pathogenic microbes with high-level and persistent luminal presence.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterisation of alpha-1 giardin: an immunodominant Giardia lamblia annexin with glycosaminoglycan-binding activity

TL;DR: It is shown that a monoclonal antibody that inhibits taglin recognises alpha-1 and alpha-2 giardin, which may play a key role in the parasite-host interaction and a conserved function of annexins from lower to higher eukaryotes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Giardia lamblia– a model organism for eukaryotic cell differentiation

TL;DR: In this review, recent data concerning Giardia differentiation is discussed with a focus on DNA replication and cytokinesis.
