Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term cultures of HTLV-III--infected T cells: a model of cytopathology of T-cell depletion in AIDS.
Daniel Zagury,Jacky Bernard,R. Leonard,Rémi Cheynier,Michael Feldman,Prem S. Sarin,Robert C. Gallo +6 more
TL;DR: A cytopathogenic mechanism that may account for T4 cell depletion in AIDS patients is revealed and how repeated antigenic stimulation by infectious agents, such as malaria in Africa, or by allogeneic blood or semen, may be important determinants of the latency period in AIDS is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
HTLV-III in cells cultured from semen of two patients with AIDS
Daniel Zagury,Jacky Bernard,Jacques Leibowitch,Bijan Safai,Jerome E. Groopman,Michael Feldman,Mangalasseril G. Sarngadharan,Robert C. Gallo +7 more
TL;DR: Epidemiological results suggest that the etiological agent of the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) is transmitted primarily through blood products, semen, and saliva, and there is evidence that the human T-cell leukemia (lymphotropic) virus type III (HTLV-III) is this agent.
Journal ArticleDOI
C-C Chemokines, Pivotal in Protection Against HIV Type 1 Infection
Daniel Zagury,Abderrahim Lachgar,Vida Chams,Lat S. Fall,Jacky Bernard,Jean-François Zagury,Bernard Bizzini,Alessandro Gringeri,Elena Santagostino,Jay Rappaport,Michael Feldman,Stephen J. O'Brien,Arsène Burny,Robert C. Gallo +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, transient natural resistance over time of most of 128 hemophiliacs who were inoculated repeatedly with HIV-1-contaminated Factor VIII concentrate from plasma during 1980-1985 before the development of the HIV blood test.
Journal ArticleDOI
A group specific anamnestic immune reaction against HIV-1 induced by a candidate vaccine against AIDS
Daniel Zagury,Jacky Bernard,Rémi Cheynier,Isabelle Desportes,Regine Leonard,Michelle Fouchard,Brigitte Reveil,Daniele Ittele,Z. Lurhuma,Kalumbu Mbayo,Justin Wane,J.J. Salaun,Bernard Goussard,Loic Dechazal,Arsène Burny,Peter L. Nara,Robert C. Gallo +16 more
TL;DR: The results show for the first time that an immune state against HIV can be obtained in man using the V25 recombinant vaccinia virus/bacteriophage T7 expression system.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interferon α and Tat involvement in the immunosuppression of uninfected T cells and C-C chemokine decline in AIDS
Daniel Zagury,Abderrahim Lachgar,Vida Chams,Lat S. Fall,Jacky Bernard,Jean-François Zagury,Bernard Bizzini,Alessandro Gringeri,Elena Santagostino,Jay Rappaport,Michael Feldman,Arsène Burny,Robert C. Gallo +12 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that IFNalpha and Tat may be critical targets for anti-AIDS strategies because specific antibodies against these proteins prevent generation of suppressor cells in HIV-1-infected peripheral blood mononuclear cell cultures.
