Comparison of Dopamine and Norepinephrine in the Treatment of Shock
Daniel De Backer,Patrick Biston,Jacques Devriendt,C Madl,Didier Chochrad,Cesar Aldecoa,Alexandre Brasseur,Pierre Defrance,Philippe Gottignies,Jean Louis Vincent +9 more
TL;DR: Although there was no significant difference in the rate of death between patients with shock who were treated with dopamine as the first-line vasopressor agent and those who were treating with norepinephrine, the use of dopamine was associated with a greater number of adverse events.
Journal ArticleDOI
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, Phase 2b study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of recombinant human soluble thrombomodulin, ART-123, in patients with sepsis and suspected disseminated intravascular coagulation
Jean Louis Vincent,Mayakonda K. Ramesh,David Ernest,Steven P. LaRosa,Jan Pachl,Naoki Aikawa,Eric Hoste,Howard Levy,Joe Hirman,Marcel Levi,Mradul Kumar Daga,Demetrios J. Kutsogiannis,Mark Crowther,Gordon R. Bernard,Jacques Devriendt,Joan Vidal Puigserver,Daniel U. Blanzaco,Charles T. Esmon,Joseph E. Parrillo,Louis Guzzi,Seton J. Henderson,Chaicharn Pothirat,Parthiv Mehta,Jawed Fareed,Deepak Talwar,Kazuhisa Tsuruta,Kenneth J. Gorelick,Yutaka Osawa,Inder Kaul +28 more
TL;DR: ART-123 is a safe intervention in critically ill patients with sepsis and suspected disseminated intravascular coagulation and evidence suggestive of efficacy supporting further development of this drug in sepsi-associated coagulopathy is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intermittent versus continuous renal replacement therapy for acute kidney injury patients admitted to the intensive care unit: results of a randomized clinical trial
Robert L. Lins,Monique Elseviers,Patricia Van der Niepen,Eric Hoste,Manu L N G Malbrain,Pierre Damas,Jacques Devriendt +6 more
TL;DR: Modality of RRT, either CRRT or IRRT, had no impact on the outcome in ICU patients with AKI and both modalities need to be considered as complementary in the treatment of AKI.
Journal ArticleDOI
Renal replacement therapy is an independent risk factor for mortality in critically ill patients with acute kidney injury.
Monique Elseviers,Robert L. Lins,Patricia Van der Niepen,Eric Hoste,Manu L N G Malbrain,Pierre Damas,Jacques Devriendt +6 more
TL;DR: The SHARF study showed that the higher mortality expected in AKI patients receiving RRT versus conservative treatment can not only be explained by a higher disease severity in the RRT group, even after multiple corrections.
Journal ArticleDOI
A previously undescribed side effect of icodextrin: overestimation of glycemia by glucose analyzer.
Robert Wens,Michel Taminne,Jacques Devriendt,Frederic Collart,Nilufer Broeders,Fabienne Mestrez,Henri Germanos,Max Dratwa +7 more
TL;DR: The Accutrend Sensor type of analyzers are therefore not suitable for regular monitoring of glycemia in diabetic PD patients treated with icodextrin and their respective role of the Analyzer and of the glucose polymer is investigated.
