Journal ArticleDOI
Investigation of human apoB48 metabolism using a new, integrated non‐steady‐state model of apoB48 and apoB100 kinetics
Elias Björnson,Chris J. Packard,Martin Adiels,Leif C. Andersson,Niina Matikainen,Sanni Söderlund,Juhani Kahri,Carina Sihlbom,Annika Thorsell,Haihong Zhou,Marja-Riitta Taskinen,Jan Borén +11 more
TL;DR: New experimental approaches are required that permit simultaneous investigation of the dynamics of chylomicrons (CM) and apoB48 metabolism and of ApoB100 in very low‐density lipoproteins (VLDL).
Journal ArticleDOI
A non-conservative polymorphism in the IL-6 signal transducer (IL6ST)/gp130 is associated with myocardial infarction in a hypertensive population.
Anna Benrick,Pernilla Jirholt,Ingrid Wernstedt,Maria Gustafsson,Juergen Scheller,Anna-Lena Eriksson,Jan Borén,Thomas Hedner,Claes Ohlsson,Torleif Härd,Stefan Rose-John,John-Olov Jansson +11 more
TL;DR: A genetically determined structural variant of the IL-6 receptor subunit gp130 is, independently of other known risk factors, associated with decreased risk of MI and could lead to a configuration change in the gp130 receptor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Low Expression of the Apolipoprotein B mRNA–Editing Transgene in Mice Reduces LDL Levels but Does Not Cause Liver Dysplasia or Tumors
Xiaobing Qian,Maureen E. Balestra,Shinya Yamanaka,Jan Borén,Isabelle Lee,Thomas L. Innerarity +5 more
TL;DR: Long-term hepatic expression of APOBEC-1 at low levels sufficient to eliminate LDL does not cause apparent liver damage or liver tumors in transgenic mice and should prove valuable for studying the roles of apoB-containing lipoproteins in lipid metabolism and atherosclerosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of TM6SF2 E167K on hepatic lipid and very low-density lipoprotein metabolism in humans.
Jan Borén,Martin Adiels,Elias Björnson,Niina Matikainen,Sanni Söderlund,Joel T. Rämö,Marcus Ståhlman,Pietari Ripatti,Samuli Ripatti,Aarno Palotie,Rosellina Margherita Mancina,Antti Hakkarainen,Stefano Romeo,Stefano Romeo,Chris J. Packard,Marja-Riitta Taskinen +15 more
TL;DR: The impaired secretion of VLDL1 explains the reduced plasma triglyceride concentration, and provides a basis for understanding the lower risk of cardiovascular disease associated with the TM6SF2 E167K genetic variant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Augmented levels of CD44 in macrophages from atherosclerotic subjects : A possible IL-6-CD44 feedback loop?
Daniel Hägg,Sara Sjöberg,Lillemor Mattsson Hultén,Björn Fagerberg,Olov Wiklund,Annika Rosengren,Lena M. S. Carlsson,Jan Borén,Per-Arne Svensson,Alexandra Krettek +9 more
TL;DR: Data show an IL-6-CD44 feedback loop in macrophages that may aggravate atherosclerosis development, and the potential connection between plasma cytokine levels and CD44 expression is examined.
