Journal ArticleDOI

Guidance for substantiating the evidence for beneficial effects of probiotics: prevention and management of infections by probiotics.

TL;DR: Certain probiotics may also reduce the risk of various symptoms of respiratory tract infections in adults and children, including ear, nose, and throat infections, although data is currently far too limited to distill any clinical recommendations in this area.
Journal ArticleDOI

Manipulating the gut microbiota to maintain health and treat disease

TL;DR: Improved knowledge on the specific role of gut microbiota in prevention and treatment of disease will help more targeted manipulation of the intestinal microbiota.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of yogurt and bifidobacteria supplementation on the colonic microbiota in lactose-intolerant subjects.

TL;DR: Colonic metabolism of lactose may play a role in lactose intolerance in 11 Chinese lactose‐intolerant subjects and a 2‐week supplementation of Bifidobacterium longum and a yogurt enriched with Bifids animalis could modify the composition and metabolic activities of the colonic microbiota.
Journal ArticleDOI

Differences in the distribution of bifidobacterial and enterobacterial species in human faecal microflora of three different (children, adults, elderly) age groups

TL;DR: To determine if there is any change with age in the distribution of Bifidobacterium and Enterobacteriaceae species in human intestinal microflora, strains were isolated from a total of 54 samples of human faeces and there is a noticeable trend whereby B. adolescentis occurs more frequently in children than in the elderly.
