Journal ArticleDOI
Antiretroviral therapy initiated during acute HIV infection fails to prevent persistent T cell activation
Michael J. Vinikoor,Anna B. Cope,Guido Ferrari,Kara S. McGee,Joann D. Kuruc,Jeffrey L. Lennox,David M. Margolis,Charles B. Hicks,Joseph J. Eron +8 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that very early events in HIV-1 pathogenesis may result in prolonged immune dysfunction may be supported by the analysis of longitudinal CD38+HLA-DR+ CD8+ T-cell percentages in acutely infected individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of latent tuberculosis among hiv-infected patients after initiation of highly active antiretroviral therapy
TL;DR: This cross-sectional study of 110 individuals examined skin testing for latent tuberculosis infection after the initiation of highly active antiretroviral therapy, finding skin test reactivity to one or more of four antigens was found in 98 out of 110 subjects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cellular Replication of Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Occurs in Vaginal Secretions
Tedd V. Ellerbrock,Jeffrey L. Lennox,Kelly A. Clancy,Raymond F. Schinazi,Thomas C. Wright,Melody Pratt-Palmore,Tammy Evans-Strickfaden,Cathy Schnell,Rekha B Pai,Lois Conley,Edith E. Parrish-Kohler,Timothy J. Bush,Kathy Tatti,Clyde E. Hart +13 more
TL;DR: It is indicated that cellular replication of HIV-1 occurs in vaginal secretions and can result in a virus population with important differences from that in blood.
Journal ArticleDOI
HIV-1 RNA Rectal Shedding Is Reduced in Men With Low Plasma HIV-1 RNA Viral Loads and Is Not Enhanced by Sexually Transmitted Bacterial Infections of the Rectum
Colleen F. Kelley,Colleen F. Kelley,Richard E. Haaland,Pragna Patel,Tammy Evans-Strickfaden,Carol E. Farshy,Debra L. Hanson,Kenneth H. Mayer,Jeffrey L. Lennox,John T. Brooks,Clyde E. Hart +10 more
TL;DR: Plasma and rectal viral load were correlated, andrectal STIs did not increase the likelihood of detecting HIV in the rectal secretions in MSM, including those with low or undetectable plasma viral load.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Switch in Therapy to a Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitor Sparing Combination of Lopinavir/Ritonavir and Raltegravir in Virologically Suppressed HIV-Infected Patients: A Pilot Randomized Trial to Assess Efficacy and Safety Profile: The KITE Study
Ighovwerha Ofotokun,Anandi N. Sheth,Sara E. Sanford,Kirk A. Easley,Neeta Shenvi,Kelly White,Molly E. Eaton,Carlos del Rio,Jeffrey L. Lennox +8 more
TL;DR: In virologically suppressed patients on HAART, switching therapy to the NRTI-sparing LPV-r/RAL combination produced similar sustained virologic suppression and immunologic profile as sHAART.
