Rockweit,Viviana Ruiz,Jessica Saenz,Stan G. Sovern +37 more
TL;DR: Strong support is found for a negative effect of Barred Owl presence on apparent survival of Spotted Owls in 10 of 11 study areas, but found few strong effects of habitat on survival at the study area scale; however, there was little consistency among areas regarding the relative importance of specific climate covariates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differential impacts of wildfire on the population dynamics of an old-forest species.
TL;DR: This work utilized data from a 26-yr demographic study of northern spotted owls to analyze the influence of wildfire on apparent survival and recruitment rates and suggested that post-fire habitat quality was reduced resulting in territories that were marginally capable of supporting owls.
Journal ArticleDOI
The past and future roles of competition and habitat in the range-wide occupancy dynamics of Northern Spotted Owls
Charles B. Yackulic,Larissa L. Bailey,Katie M. Dugger,Raymond J. Davis,Alan B. Franklin,Eric D. Forsman,Steven H. Ackers,Lawrence S. Andrews,Lowell V. Diller,Scott A. Gremel,Keith A. Hamm,Dale R. Herter,J. Mark Higley,Rob B. Horn,Christopher McCafferty,Janice A. Reid,Jeremy T. Rockweit,Stan G. Sovern +17 more
TL;DR: This study suggests how intensive management actions (removal of a competitor) with rapid results can complement a slower management action (i.e., promoting forest succession) in order to promote the persistence of northern spotted owl populations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Range-wide declines of northern spotted owl populations in the Pacific Northwest: A meta-analysis

Rockweit,David C. Simon,Stan G. Sovern,Stan G. Sovern,James K. Swingle,Heather Wise +38 more
TL;DR: The authors conducted a prospective meta-analysis to assess population trends and factors affecting those trends in northern spotted owls using 26 years of survey and capture-recapture data from 11 study areas across the owls' geographic range to analyze demographic traits, rates of population change and occupancy parameters for spotted owl territories.
Journal ArticleDOI
Grass is not always greener: rodenticide exposure of a threatened species near marijuana growing operations.
Alan B. Franklin,Peter C. Carlson,Angela Rex,Jeremy T. Rockweit,David Garza,Emily Culhane,Steven F. Volker,Robert J. Dusek,Valerie I. Shearn-Bochsler,Mourad W. Gabriel,Katherine E. Horak +10 more
TL;DR: An observation of brodifacoum AR exposure in a threatened species, the northern spotted owl, found freshly dead within 669–1347 m of at least seven active MGOs in California is reported on.
