Theory of mind deficit in bipolar disorder: is it related to a previous history of psychotic symptoms?
Guillermo Lahera,José Manuel Montes,Adolfo Benito,María Valdivia,Elena Medina,Isabel Mirapeix,Jerónimo Saiz-Ruiz +6 more
TL;DR: ToM performance was similar in bipolar patients with or without a history of psychotic symptoms, and in both cases it was significantly reduced as compared with the healthy control group, and both bipolar groups showed impaired sustained attention and executive functions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biological correlations of suicide and aggressivity in major depressions (with melancholia): 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid and cortisol in cerebral spinal fluid, dexamethasone suppression test and therapeutic response to 5-hydroxytryptophan.
TL;DR: A positive correlation was found between strong suicidal thoughts, suicidal attempts and self-aggressivity and low concentration of 5-HIAA in CSF and a less significant but still positive correlation with abnormal DST response and with clinical response to the treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pathological gambling and DNA polymorphic markers at MAO-A and MAO-B genes.
TL;DR: Allele variants at the MAOA, but not the MAOB gene may be a genetic liability factor in PG, at least in severe male gamblers.
Journal ArticleDOI
A pilot study of impulsivity and compulsivity in pathological gambling.
Carlos Blanco,Marc N. Potenza,Suck Won Kim,Angela Ibáñez,Rocco Zaninelli,Jerónimo Saiz-Ruiz,Jon E. Grant +6 more
TL;DR: Although PG exhibits features of both obsessionality/compulsivity and impulsivity and elements of both decrease with treatment, impulsivity predominates and changes in gambling severity are most associated with changes in impulsivity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of new putative susceptibility genes for several psychiatric disorders by association analysis of regulatory and non‐synonymous SNPs of 306 genes involved in neurotransmission and neurodevelopment
Mònica Gratacòs,Javier Costas,R. de Cid,Mònica Bayés,Justo González,Enrique Baca-García,Y. de Diego,Fernando Fernández-Aranda,José Fernández-Piqueras,Miriam Guitart,Rocío Martín-Santos,Lourdes Martorell,José M. Menchón,Miquel Roca,Jerónimo Saiz-Ruiz,Julio Sanjuán,Marta Torrens,Mikel Urretavizcaya,Joaquín Valero,Elisabet Vilella,Xavier Estivill,Angel Carracedo +21 more
TL;DR: The association of BDKRB2 to several psychiatric disorders supports the view that a common genetic variant could confer susceptibility to clinically related phenotypes, and defines a new functional hint in the pathophysiology of psychiatric diseases.
