Journal ArticleDOI
Aβ 1–42 inhibition of LTP is mediated by a signaling pathway involving caspase-3, Akt1 and GSK-3β
Jihoon Jo,Daniel J. Whitcomb,Kimberly Moore Olsen,Talitha L Kerrigan,Shih-Ching Lo,Gilles Bru-Mercier,Bryony A. Dickinson,Sarah Scullion,Morgan Sheng,Graham L. Collingridge,Kwangwook Cho +10 more
TL;DR: It is found that a signaling pathway involving caspase-3, Akt1 and glycogen synthase kinase 3β is an important mediator of this effect in rats and mice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microtubule-associated protein tau is essential for long-term depression in the hippocampus
Tetsuya Kimura,Daniel J. Whitcomb,Jihoon Jo,Philip Regan,Thomas M. Piers,Seonghoo Heo,Christopher A. Brown,Tsutomu Hashikawa,Miyuki Murayama,Heon Seok,Ioannis Sotiropoulos,Ioannis Sotiropoulos,Eunjoon Kim,Graham L. Collingridge,Akihiko Takashima,Kwangwook Cho +15 more
TL;DR: It is found that the induction of LTD is associated with the glycogen synthase kinase-3-mediated phosphorylation of tau, which demonstrates that tau has a critical physiological function in LTD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Altered Hippocampal Synaptic Potentiation in P2X4 Knock-Out Mice
Joan A. Sim,Severine Chaumont,Jihoon Jo,Lauriane Ulmann,Mark T. Young,Kwangwook Cho,G. Buell,R. Alan North,François Rassendren +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that calcium entry through subsynaptic P2X4 receptors during high-frequency stimulation contributes to synaptic strengthening.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regulation of Synaptic Rac1 Activity, Long-Term Potentiation Maintenance, and Learning and Memory by BCR and ABR Rac GTPase-Activating Proteins
Daeyoung Oh,Seungnam Han,Jinsoo Seo,Jae-Ran Lee,Jeonghoon Choi,John Groffen,Karam Kim,Yi Sul Cho,Han Saem Choi,Hyewon Shin,Jooyeon Woo,Hyejung Won,Soon Kwon Park,Soo-Young Kim,Jihoon Jo,Daniel J. Whitcomb,Kwangwook Cho,Hyun Uk Kim,Yong Chul Bae,Nora Heisterkamp,Se-Young Choi,Eunjoon Kim +21 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that BCR and ABR have novel roles in the regulation of synaptic Rac1 signaling, synaptic plasticity, and learning and memory, and that excessive Rac1 activity negatively affects synaptic and cognitive functions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intracellular oligomeric amyloid-beta rapidly regulates GluA1 subunit of AMPA receptor in the hippocampus
Daniel J. Whitcomb,Ellen L. Hogg,Philip Regan,Thomas M. Piers,Priyanka Narayan,Garry Whitehead,Bryony L. Winters,Dong-Hyun Kim,Eunjoon Kim,Peter St George-Hyslop,David Klenerman,Graham L. Collingridge,Jihoon Jo,Kwangwook Cho +13 more
TL;DR: It is shown that oligomerised Aβ induces a rapid enhancement of AMPA receptor-mediated synaptic transmission (EPSCA) when applied intracellularly, and an inhibitor of Ca2+-permeable AMPARs (CP-AMPARs), IEM 1460, reverses the increase in the amplitude of EPSCA.
