Journal ArticleDOI
Measurement of health status: Ascertaining the minimal clinically important difference
TL;DR: An approach to elucidating the significance of changes in score in quality of life instruments by comparing them to global ratings of change is developed, and a plausible range within which the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) falls is established.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recurrent de novo point mutations in lamin A cause Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome
Maria Eriksson,W. Ted Brown,Leslie B. Gordon,Leslie B. Gordon,Michael W. Glynn,Joel Singer,Laura J. Scott,Michael R. Erdos,Christiane M. Robbins,Tracy Moses,Peter Berglund,Amalia Dutra,Evgenia Pak,Sandra G. Durkin,Antonei B. Csoka,Michael Boehnke,Thomas W. Glover,Francis S. Collins +17 more
TL;DR: Evidence of mutations in lamin A (LMNA) as the cause of Hutchinson–Gilford progeria syndrome is presented, and the discovery of the molecular basis of this disease may shed light on the general phenomenon of human ageing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vasopressin versus Norepinephrine Infusion in Patients with Septic Shock
James A. Russell,Keith R. Walley,Joel Singer,Anthony C. Gordon,Paul C. Hébert,D. James Cooper,Cheryl L. Holmes,Sangeeta Mehta,John Granton,Michelle Storms,Deborah J. Cook,Jeffrey J. Presneill,Dieter Ayers +12 more
TL;DR: Low-dose vasopressin did not reduce mortality rates as compared with norepinephrine among patients with septic shock who were being treated with conventional (catecholamine) vasopressesors, and a test for heterogeneity between these two study strata was not significant.
Journal ArticleDOI
A New Measure of Health Status for Clinical Trials in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Gordon H. Guyatt,Alba Mitchell,E. Jan Irvine,Joel Singer,Nancy Williams,R.L. Goodacre,Cathy Tompkins +6 more
TL;DR: The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire shows promise as a measure of health status for clinical trials in IBD, and responsiveness appeared greater in patients with ulcerative colitis than in those with Crohn's disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aspirin, sulfinpyrazone, or both in unstable angina. Results of a Canadian multicenter trial.
John A. Cairns,Michael Gent,Joel Singer,K J Finnie,G M Froggatt,D A Holder,G Jablonsky,William J. Kostuk,L J Melendez,M G Myers +9 more
TL;DR: Findings provide strong evidence for a beneficial effect of aspirin in patients with unstable angina and there was no evidence of an interaction between sulfinpyrazone and aspirin.
