Journal ArticleDOI
A Randomized, Controlled Trial of Corticosteroids in the Treatment of Acute Optic Neuritis
Roy W. Beck,Patricia A. Cleary,Malcolm M. Anderson,John L. Keltner,William T. Shults,David I. Kaufman,Edward G. Buckley,James J. Corbett,Mark J. Kupersmith,Neil R. Miller,Peter J. Savino,John Guy,Jonathan D. Trobe,John A. McCrary,Craig H. Smith,Georgia A. Chrousos,H. Stanley Thompson,Barrett Katz,Michael C. Brodsky,James Goodwin,Constance W. Atwell +20 more
TL;DR: Although the differences between the groups decreased with time, at six months the group that received intravenous methylprednisolone still had slightly better visual fields, contrast sensitivity, and color vision but not better visual acuity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nonarteritic Ischemic Optic Neuropathy: The Impact of Tobacco Use
Sophia M. Chung,John A. McCrary +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of smoking on anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION) was studied and the relevance of other intraocular and systemic vascular diseases to AION was discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intraosseous capillary hemangioma of the frontal bone.
TL;DR: A 31-year-old woman with a history of slowly progressive proptosis associated with blepharoptosis was found radiographically to have a lytic lesion of the frontal bone, which Histopathologically was a capillary hemangioma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Visual function at baseline and 1 month in acute optic neuritis: Predictors of visual outcome
M. J. Kupersmith,Robin L. Gal,Roy W. Beck,Dongyuan Xing,N. Miller,Edward G. Buckley,Michael C. Brodsky,Georgia A. Chrousos,James J. Corbett,James Goodwin,John Guy,Barrett Katz,David I. Kaufman,Mark J. Kupersmith,John A. McCrary,Neil R. Miller,Peter J. Savino,William T. Shults,Craig H. Smith,Jonathan D. Trobe +19 more
TL;DR: Cutpoints at 1 month were highly predictive of abnormal 6-month vision, but the proportion of patients who would be eligible for a trial would be small and studies to test therapies that might reduce the amount of permanent optic nerve damage due to optic neuritis in high-risk patients should be designed.
Journal ArticleDOI
`Cholesteatoma' of the Orbit
TL;DR: Important clinical features distinguish between epidermoid cholesteatomas and cholesterol granulomas of the orbit and justify a separation of these two pathologic entities.
