Journal ArticleDOI

Mie resonances and bonding in photonic crystals

TL;DR: In this paper, isolated dielectric spheres support resonant electromagnetic modes analogous to electronic orbitals and, like their electronic counterparts, can form bonding or anti-bonding interactions between neighbouring spheres.
Journal ArticleDOI

Energy losses in colloidal metals

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a numerical technique developed to study photons in complex dielectric structures to explain the energy loss peaks from experimental studies on metallic colloids, and they also showed how the method may be used to explore the properties of the plasmons and induced electric fields in the colloidal system.
Book ChapterDOI

Comparison of the Quasidynamical and Tensor LEED Approximation for LEED Intensity Spectra from a Reconstructed Surface

TL;DR: In this paper, the quasidynamical and Tensor LEED approximations of intensity spectra are compared to each other and to full dynamical data. And the combination of both methods is therefore suggested for optimization of computational efforts.
