Defining chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in older persons.
Carlos A. Vaz Fragoso,Carlos A. Vaz Fragoso,John Concato,John Concato,Gail McAvay,Peter H. Van Ness,Carolyn L. Rochester,Carolyn L. Rochester,H. Klar Yaggi,H. Klar Yaggi,Thomas M. Gill +10 more
TL;DR: In a large, nationally representative sample of community-living older persons, defining COPD based on an FEV1/FVC<.70, with FEV 1 cut-points at the 10th and 5th SR-tiles, identifies individuals with an increased prevalence of respiratory symptoms and an increased risk of death, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reducing cardiovascular risk through treatment of obstructive sleep apnea: 2 methodological approaches.
Henry K. Yaggi,Murray A. Mittleman,Dawn M. Bravata,John Concato,James S. Ware,Catherine M. Stoney,Susan Redline +6 more
TL;DR: Both studies provide key information that will be useful to the research community in future large-scale, event-driven, randomized trials to evaluate the efficacy and/or effectiveness of strategies to identify and treat significant OSA for decreasing risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in high-risk patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Associations of Stress Exposures and Social Support With Long-Term Mental Health Outcomes Among U.S. Iraq War Veterans.
Maria M. Ciarleglio,Mihaela Aslan,Susan P. Proctor,John Concato,John Ko,Anica Pless Kaiser,Jennifer J. Vasterling,Jennifer J. Vasterling +7 more
TL;DR: Multivariable regression models showed that greater postdeployment stressors, as measured by the Post-Deployment Life Events scale, were associated with greater risk of depression, anxiety disorders, and problem drinking, and greater postDeployment social support was associated with lower risk of all outcomes except problem drinking.
Journal ArticleDOI
AUDIT-C and ICD codes as phenotypes for harmful alcohol use: association with ADH1B polymorphisms in two US populations
Amy C. Justice,Amy C. Justice,Rachel Vickers Smith,Janet P. Tate,Kathleen A. McGinnis,Ke Xu,Ke Xu,William C. Becker,William C. Becker,Kuang-Yao Lee,Kevin G. Lynch,Ning Sun,John Concato,John Concato,David A. Fiellin,Hongyu Zhao,Joel Gelernter,Joel Gelernter,Henry R. Kranzler +18 more
TL;DR: The age-adjusted mean AUDIT-C score is associated more strongly with genetic polymorphisms of known risk for alcohol use disorder than are longitudinal trajectories of AUDit-C or AUD diagnostic codes, and diagnostic codes modestly enhance this association.
Journal ArticleDOI
Validation of an Electronic Medical Record-Based Algorithm for Identifying Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in U.S. Veterans.
Kelly M. Harrington,Kelly M. Harrington,Rachel Quaden,Murray B. Stein,Murray B. Stein,Jacqueline Honerlaw,Shadha Cissell,Robert H. Pietrzak,Hongyu Zhao,Krishnan Radhakrishnan,Mihaela Aslan,John Michael Gaziano,John Michael Gaziano,John Concato,David R. Gagnon,David R. Gagnon,Joel Gelernter,Kelly Cho,Kelly Cho,VA Million Veteran Program +19 more
TL;DR: An algorithm for identifying U.S. veterans with a history of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), using the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) electronic medical record (EMR) system, and showing modestly higher overall percent agreement with chart review than the ICD algorithm.
