Simultaneous measurement of strain, temperature and refractive index based on multimode interference, fiber tapering and fiber Bragg gratings

TL;DR: In this paper, an optical fiber sensor capable of simultaneously measuring strain, temperature and refractive index is presented. But the sensor is based on the combination of two fiber Bragg gratings written in a standard single-mode fiber, one in an untapered region and another in a tapered region, spliced to a no-core fiber.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bragg gratings in surface-core fibers: Refractive index and directional curvature sensing

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report the first extended study of the inscription of Bragg gratings in surface-core fibers and their application in refractive index and directional curvature sensing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Low-loss single-mode hybrid-lattice hollow-core photonic-crystal fibre.

TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid cladding composed of a Kagome-tubular lattice (HKT) was proposed to reduce the confinement loss and preserve robust single-mode operation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Photonic-crystal fiber-based pressure sensor for dual environment monitoring

TL;DR: The development of a side-hole photonic-crystal fiber (SH-PCF) pressure sensor for dual environment monitoring is reported and properties (phase and group birefringence, sensitivity to pressure variations) are measured and compared to simulated data.
Journal ArticleDOI

Low-loss single-mode hybrid-lattice hollow-core photonic crystal fiber

TL;DR: The design proposed herein opens a new route for the development of HCPCFs that combine robust ultra-low-loss transmission and single-mode beam delivery and provides new insight into IC guidance.
