Delirium in Elderly Patients and the Risk of Postdischarge Mortality, Institutionalization, and Dementia: A Meta-analysis

TL;DR: Evidence is provided that delirium in elderly patients is associated with poor outcome independent of important confounders, such as age, sex, comorbid illness or illness severity, and baseline dementia.

Delirium in Elderly Patients and the Risk of Postdischarge Mortality, Institutionalization, and Dementia

TL;DR: Eurelings et al. as discussed by the authors found that older patients with delirium experienced increased long-term mortality in one study, but not in another, which may affect conclusions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cerebrospinal fluid β-amyloid and tau are not associated with risk of delirium: a prospective cohort study in older adults with hip fracture.

TL;DR: The association between cerebrospinal fluid β‐amyloid (Aβ1–42), tau, and hyperphosphorylated tau (Ptau) and risk of delirium in older adults with hip fracture is examined.
Journal ArticleDOI

Delirium detection using relative delta power based on 1-minute single-channel EEG: a multicentre study.

TL;DR: Delirium/possible delirium can be detected in older postoperative patients based on a single‐channel EEG recording that can be automatically analysed, and this objective detection method with a continuous scale instead of a dichotomised outcome is a promising approach for routine detection of deliria.
