Journal ArticleDOI
Functional mapping of the motor cortex of the rat using transdural electrical stimulation
Erich Talamoni Fonoff,Erich Talamoni Fonoff,José F. Pereira,Leonardo Valente Camargo,Camila Squarzoni Dale,Rosana L. Pagano,Rosana L. Pagano,Gerson Ballester,Manoel Jacobsen Teixeira +8 more
TL;DR: This method allows a non-invasive mapping of the surface of the neocortex providing a differentiation of representative motor areas in rat motor cortex, possibly benefiting patients who do not respond to this neuromodulation therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lateral hypothalamic activity indicates hunger and satiety states in humans.
Omid Talakoub,Raquel R. Paiva,Matija Milosevic,Matija Milosevic,Marcelo Q. Hoexter,Ruth Rocha Franco,Eduardo Joaquim Lopes Alho,Jessie Navarro,José F. Pereira,Milos R. Popovic,Milos R. Popovic,Cary R. Savage,Antonio Carlos Lopes,Pedro Gomes de Alvarenga,Durval Damiani,Manoel Jacobsen Teixeira,E. C. Miguel,Erich Talamoni Fonoff,Marcelo C. Batistuzzo,Clement Hamani,Clement Hamani,Clement Hamani +21 more
TL;DR: Lateral hypothalamic area (LHA) local field potentials (LFPs) were recorded in a Prader–Willi patient undergoing deep brain stimulation (DBS) for obesity and found that the pattern of activity in LHA may indicate hunger/satiety states in humans but attest to the complexity of conducting neuromodulation studies in obesity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complex slow potential generators in a simplified attention paradigm.
Luis F. H. Basile,Enzo P. Brunetti,José F. Pereira,Gerson Ballester,Gerson Ballester,Edson Amaro,Renato Anghinah,Pedro Ribeiro,Pedro Ribeiro,Roberto Airton Marques Piedade,Roberto Airton Marques Piedade,Wagner F. Gattaz +11 more
TL;DR: The concept of a universal attention-related set of cortical areas if restricted to common areas across subjects is challenged, since even area 7 may no longer be common when the sample size becomes larger.
Journal ArticleDOI
Minor and Unsystematic Cortical Topographic Changes of Attention Correlates between Modalities
Luis F. H. Basile,Luis F. H. Basile,Mirna D. Lozano,Milkes Y. Alvarenga,Milkes Y. Alvarenga,José F. Pereira,Sergio Machado,Bruna Velasques,Pedro Ribeiro,Roberto Piedade,Renato Anghinah,Gennady G. Knyazev,Renato T. Ramos,Renato T. Ramos +13 more
TL;DR: Quantitative results agreed with visual inspection, supporting the conclusion that attention-related activity does not change much between modalities, and whatever individual changes do occur, they are not systematic in cortical localization across subjects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Psychosurgery for schizophrenia: history and perspectives.
Matheus Schmidt Soares,Wellingson Silva Paiva,Eda Zanetti Guertzenstein,Robson Luis Oliveira de Amorim,Luca Silveira Bernardo,José F. Pereira,Erich Talamoni Fonoff,Manoel Jacobsen Teixeira +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that there are still many patients with schizophrenia who have serious deficits even after being treated with current noninvasive therapies, and there are no data available to support the use of stereotactic procedures for schizophrenia.
